remove wheat and add more realistic food resources to the POTC Build mod

Cpt. Wolf359

Landlubber
Now we have only two food resources Wheat and Rum which is need for crew food in POTC/Build mod but this is very <b>unrealistic</b> because for crew in old sailing ships main meal been biscuit/toast bread, dry meat and cheese also sailors drink a GROG. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/william.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":will" border="0" alt="william.gif" />

What you think about my suggestion to remove wheat and ad this tree new food and new drink Grog in POTC Build mod it make this detail more realistic? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

How's this? Better than using wheat, no? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
BTW: No need to write your ideas in big letters. We can read normal size. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

In order to limit micromanagement to a halfway enjoyable level I think one resource "food" is way more preferable to multiple resources. And rum, grog... where´s the difference (actually, don´t answer that - I know how to use encyclopedias, thank you)

sorry Pieter I forget this because I in subsim forums I use size 3 letters. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/oops3.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:ops2" border="0" alt="oops3.gif" />

Indeed the micromanagement aspect remains an issue and therefore I agree with v_Grimmelshausen. For every proposed change we should consider the impact on gameplay. Now adding scruvy and fruit WOULD add addtional gameplay. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

keep in mind, however, that fruit would take up extra cargo space, and we're already having trouble with that.

True, what we can do to is like in the game Uncharted Waters: New Horizon from SNES, in the game you can buy an item named "Lime Juice" and use it for scurvy, we can do the same here. You put the lime in the store (or an item that represent the same) not where the other good are but in the private items that's they also sell so the player can buy it then must put it in the weapons locker so that the crew can use it. So if you ran out of food and rum the weapon locker depend on how it will be stock can be use as an emergency rations storage for the crew. Just an idea.

Cheers, <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

there's something important about that lime juice. although the admirality handbook says that lime juice is the best preventer of scurvy, this is incorrect. it's actually <u>lemon</u> juice. this is due to a translational error in the past. captain cook had found out that lemon juice was the best remedy/preventer, but when he reported it in australia it was wrongly reported to the admirality in england because in australia a lemon is called a lime. or something like that. i'm not sure, only of the translational error.

putting it in the weapon'slocker wouldn't be any good, unless they are prevented to equip it somehow. imagine the sight if they would start pelting the enemy with lemons. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" />

I don't know if lemon juice was used very early. On the oposite, some <i>Opuntia ficus-indica</i> was quickly found anti-scurvy properties : it's a plant that was grown in Central America before la Conquista, and still now. It then quickly spread in the Canaries and the Mediterranean area. A lot of other things could have been used against scurvy, some research should be done before trying to implement anything.

I remind you some comments that have been done concerning scurvy : normally it's a long-run journey desease, it takes some time to appear, currently in PotC journeys doesn't take too much time (a few days), even less with direct sail mod.

The difference between rum and grog is this:

Rum keeps longer than water, but water doesn't make the men drunk, so you mix it 50/50 and get grog - watered down rum, a beverage that keeps for a long time and doesn't intoxicate the men. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> This is why men were always trying to get extra rations of grog... imagine opening a beer and finding that its half water... you'd want to get another beer to get your full bottle's worth!

And all that about the lemons, limes... the British were very passionate about all that, which merited a few jokes about them from the Americans during the War of 1812... hence the nickname "Limeys". <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

I wouldn't add citrus fruits as a new good, but rather an ability you can get. So that you can use a point or two to get "This ability includes lemons and limes on your perishables roster, to prevent scurvy." Perhaps we could somehow tie this to the doctor, so that obtaining a doctor as an officer is vital to your crew's health?

could be a good idea. maybe you should visit the greenford apothecary once in a while to hold off the scurvy. scurvy would start to occur after each 100 days or so. the player would need to know what to do against it though.
