Does Chrysal...something (valuable stone) do anything (in the description it says that with 2 of them you repel ghosts)
I looted a cursed coin from somewhere (like the ones in PoTC film). Does it do anything?
Also there are some Mayan Skulls around. Do they do anything?

Edit: The coin was on a ship, at the second spot of item loot (not weapons locker, the other).

Some of these items improve/decrease your skills. Other than that, they're not really used in quests yet.

Ahhh now that I think of it, I may have. Damn I paid nearly a million for reputation restore at the church <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

Hehe! That's expensive on purpose. Gives players something to do with all that money.

It's more effective in the middle of the range than at the extremes. At least it was last time I had my fingers in that code.

Oh... and eventually you'll meet the Usurer Avenger... a nasty big ship that was sent from the loan shark to deal with people who don't pay back loans. I don't know what the ship is actually called, but it should be obvious what it is.

I think I'm unbeatable at sea, I got 2 manowars with decent officers (I noticed they offer more cargo than galleons and much more firepower, pirate design and a dutch one) and a super frigate for me since I board a lot (pirate design, fast and many cannons).

Yeah! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> I remember getting that ship after me once. I was able to capture the ship and sell it, and made a heck of a lot more on the deal than the original loan was. I should have gone back and thanked the loanshark. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I almost never borrow money from the loanshark any more, and the one time I did recently I paid him back before the day was over. I use him mainly to divide the plunder, and lately as a savings account so I don't have enough money with me to trigger the morale drop. I've currently got payroll expenses of 400-600K (with salary multiplier at max), so managing money is a whole mini-game in itself.

Why do we even need a loanshark for this? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Ca'nt the ships Quartermaster be assigned to signing articles & dividing the plunder?....it'd give him something to do other than being a jobsworth.

Indeed; I'd LOVE to have the officers offer options depending on their officer type. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />
In the case of "divide the plunder" I'd imagine you'd need to be at anchor in a port to be able to do this.
Other than that, why bother with the loanshark?

I'd hate to divide the plunder, I hate it since Pirates! :p Perhaps add it with an option on or off, for the egoists like myself. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

The loanshark is a banker and this is a banking transaction. Besides, it gets you inside a building and away from the sea which may be necessary for some things to work, like repairing fallen masts.

Hook

True. In that case, we just need to make sure there's loansharks <i>everywhere</i>.

or make the quarter master divide in the inn where there isn't a loanshark. and just give it a tweak so you loose money by leeting him do it.

Considering we can reassign officers to new jobs at any time, you might as well let any officer do the job. There's already a dialog option to go back to paying salary on the officers, but it reminds you that you need to divide the plunder first.

There's no real way to lose money on the division process. The majority goes to the crew, a portion to the officers and what's left over to you. Having less to start a new expedition is unworkable. Giving less to the crew won't matter a bit, although you could have more desert, and since no one understands how this works anyway, they won't know it's happening. Giving less to the player won't even be noticed; people probably don't even know that dividing the plunder adds to their wealth.

About the only thing you could do that had any effect would be to not repair the ships and restock their cargo (except food and rum), and that's the same as having less to start a new expedition. For a really experienced player, this won't be any kind of problem. For a new player it will generate lots of complaints.

If we let the officers divide the plunder, then we don't need loansharks. Their only function would be to lend you money or give you a place to save excess money for which they pay interest like in the stock game. There are occasionally interesting characters in the loanshark's office.

Hook

True; we'll just need to add loansharks on all the islands then. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

i just remembered about the bloke in the inn in falais de fleur he had an Paymaster title in the original that has been removed but if any one that you could hire should have the potential of dividing then it would be him.
