Question about ship cannon sounds

Did these get changed for PBM 13? They seem to have lost their 'oompfa'. Now, they sound like little pops... almost like they are hand cannons, not deck cannons. Was this intentional? I miss the big whoomping PAFOOOM! sound when a cannon fires.

They were changed, yes. Now each cannon type has a different sound. If you want your cannons to sound like big bad cannons, go to a shipyard and install bigger guns. Small cannons sound like little pops, but large cannons don't. You can also turn off that cannon sound mod in BuildSettings.h, which restores the original sounds.

I'm not sure I like the changed cannon sounds. I can tell you from real life the only difference between a shotgun, a hand grenade and a 105mm main gun on a tank is in the volume. From a half mile away, you can't tell the difference. And in reenactments that used 12 pound field cannons, the sound isn't much different.

I can understand pistols having different sounds in the game. And I like the new pistol sounds. But I want my ship guns to have a big kaboom.

Then set JRH_GUNSOUNDS off in BuildSettings.h. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I do like the idea of the different sized cannons having different sounds.

I just think the smallest cannon should start out as a fairly hefty BOOM, and then scale up in monstrosity from there. Normally I prefer smaller, faster reloading guns, to the big pounders.

Finding sound files is tough, and especially trying to find 6 of them all for basically the same thing has to be difficult... so I understand that it may not be changed. No problem.

... I do have a pack of sound effects CDs from yonder years... I may check them out for my own morbid amusement <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

If you find any better sound files, please send them to me. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

Did you add the Master and Commander sounds? because they were set to be used with JRH_GUNSOUNDS off, and they are authentic cannon souns <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

I did add them, yes. I forgot about those. People: If you want louder cannon sounds, turn off JRH_GUNSOUNDS and all cannons will use the M&C cannons sounds that Merciless Mark added. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />
