Quest proposal

I'd be say'n go fer it Grimm,play SeaDogs wid Hoseheads addon and thar be characters from Elaybe ,Duke S.,Hosehead,Lady Eliza Jane,Ben Gunn,Lord McAlpine,jest ter mention a few,and de dialog is funny,entertain'n and most important, a hoot te play,it'd not be important names O' characters,entertaining quests,a good storyline toss in some humour,anyone 'at be 'ave'n a problem wid 'at need ter be give'n thar head a shake <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> I'd luv nuth'n better than ter see a location filled wid PA characters,generat'n fun quests,O' course this jest be this humble pirate's opinion <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/buds.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":drunk" border="0" alt="buds.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Ye said it, Skull! I haven't played SeaDogs meselfe, but I might give it a whirl. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Skull, I thought and hoped you recognize the difference. Sea Dogs Add-On was created from the beginning with the idea that LIB members will be act in this Add-On. But we have Build 12 here now and nobody from this community acts in it so far. This community which plays and supports those Builds is too large, so I thought some people could be jealous or something similar that somebody figures in the Builds and another people not. And it is all what I meant by this. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

None of us seem to be jealous, Rad. Are you pointing out that YOU are? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> I would think we all welcome a new addition to our game, may that include Catalina, Fred Bob, Keith or Nathan or anybody else from PA as NPCs. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

I am really not. I think you don´t know me at all. But you are writting here "I would think we all" but there are several hundreds of people registered here, at lest. So, I think you are expressing your personal opinion as I am expressing mine. Do you think I don´t want new guests? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

I agree, I <b>don't</b> know you, Rad. But nobody else has posted negative feedback, apart from you. It was just a wild guess. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" /> Sorry if it seemed a tiny bit offensive, it was not meant to be. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/no.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":no" border="0" alt="no.gif" />

I hope you don't get into a mood of <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/duel_pa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ixi" border="0" alt="duel_pa.gif" /> ing. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

I am sorry, that I don´t write what you would like to hear but what I mean. At least I express what I think. Many people in this world think one matter, talk another matter and do completely something else. It rather seems to me some people would like to act in game too much eagerly, and I think it isn´t good for the matter. In this case the personal ambitions and ego prevails under the common good.
Nothing happens Rico, it´s OK. I wanted only express my personal opinion on this matter. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

Harrr! Matey's Nuth'n ol" Skull luv's better than a good Ol' fashion tavern brawl <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> no offence intended Rad matey,jest de way I'd be talk'n,wasn't single'n out ye ur anyone else fer de matter,like I'd be say'n jest me humble opinion,and what I'd be like'n may not be fer all <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cheers.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="cheers.gif" />

The personal ambitions of Grimmelshausen to immortalize himself in the game Pirates of the Caribbean because of his oversized ego? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":huh" border="0" alt="huh.gif" />

I see you realized I edited <i>"We all"</i> to <i>"I would think we all"</i>. Yes, it is my personal opinion, but I beleive that most people agree with me, that this is reasonable, to put oneself in a game. And if you had looked at Grimm's post in the <i>"My character and ship"</i> topic, you could've read up on the character whose name he is using as his nick at our forums. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

<span style='font-size:8pt;line-height:100%'>I guess there <b>will</b> be a duel here... </span><img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

I don´t want to talk about this issue anymore. In any case I will suit the wishes of the majority and I will never stop to play PoTC ( I hope). <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />

I always welcome your (and anyone's) input, Rad - you speak your mind and are honest, and that to me is a whole lot better than someone just saying "WOW GREAT!" all the time. In the US, we call this "constructive criticism", and as any creative person will tell you, we all need to learn EARLY to take constructive criticism in the spirit it was intended - not as a rebuke or a condemnation, but as a suggestion, or a different point of view.

Having different points of view, IMO, makes the world a MUCH more interesting place! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

You know, most people desiring their own character in the game so far have been content to have a custom skin so we can play as our own persona or have ourselves in Nathaniel's officer contingent (which is what I usually do) - and I think a lot of us have tinkered around with that. If this is changing, well, I think it's only a natural extension of our own creativity to want to mod ourselves into a quest.

It would be fun, for instance, for me to do something with my own (historical) persona as she was quite the renegade - thief, in and out of the Spanish military in Peru and other parts of South America, dueling, gambling, killing, heroic in battle, &tc... All while masquerading as a man. She was never really a shipboard pirate per se, mostly a rascal on land, so if I were to author a quest involving her, it would have to be something like stealing the gold train, or getting her into many many many many duels.

Heh, I could have her duel against Nathaniel repeatedly, in random places at random times - always stopping when the match got to a certain point, so no one dies. That might be a fun thing to add to the game. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" /> But I probably won't get to that, as I've got a LOT of other stuff on my modding "plate". <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Modding this game is only limited by our imaginations, and of course as has been the watchword of the modders here - TOGGLE-ABILITY is the key. Make it so that the regular player can switch it on or switch it off if they so choose.

In the case of the quest v.Grimm proposes, I think it would only be a matter of playing or not playing the quest, if you wish. It's like the Animists quest, or the Assassin quest - you can do it, or not do it. Heck, the way we have it now, you don't even have to do the main quest to play the game, you can just play without it (as I usually do, until I get the urge to twit Silehard and the French, HA!).

I hope, that with the advent of SEVERAL new things (the new locations, for one) we will see a lot of new side quests - so many that we won't be able to choose which to do first! I myself have a couple of ways to generate side quests - my Sneaky Trader is one, and if all goes well with that mod, he'll be able to send you out on treasure hunts, get you involved with the guards if you have "stolen goods" (however accidentally you acquire them) in your possession - which may necessitate a jailbreak with keys the Sneaky Trader provides, or perhaps you will have to break into a house to find something to prove your innocence, by using the prybar the Sneaky Trader will provide... There are COUNTLESS things he'll be able to generate - my creating him and setting him up in business will give other modders the chance to run mods off of his base.

Same with my (hopefully) continuing characters of Armand and Estrella, from the Fred Bob/Help the Lady quests. They can be set up on one of the new locations - hiding from the Spanish military - Estrella running the inn and Armand as the pirate king who can have more adventures with Nathaniel...

You see what I mean by "only limited by our imaginations"?

I WISH I had the TIME to do all these and get them done NOW... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> (what were we talking about?) <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Hi, Catalina. Thank you for your nice and reasonable words. I have no personal problem with it or about any people here. I wanted only point at some potential risk connected with that. But you, modders, whatever you will decide, have my full support for anything (almost <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> ) you will be doing because you try to entertain people and it is good. And you certanily have some personal satisfaction about that, which is normal and understandable, if people like these Builds and your work. So, I must only looking forward to any new, funny and good new quests. I hope they will be working well, better than in the case of kidnapped children. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> And I think you needn´t avoid some a little longer dialogs in the quests if they will be interesting, funny or even somehow didactic. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />

Aye Rad,Catalina always has de right words,thar ye go again Cat,gett'n me all soft again <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wub.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wub.gif" /> Always enjoy read'n yer posts Rad,keep them coming mate <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

That's all right, Skull matey, have a rum. Ye'll be sheets flyin' again in no time! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/buds.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":drunk" border="0" alt="buds.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Hey, You too? No waaayyy!
Being a renegade Spaniard was always the best way to do the original SM Pirates!
I've always been one!

Remember I was once<img src="http://www.pix8.net/pro/pic/7888greeb/444823.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
before growing old <img src="http://www.pix8.net/pro/pic/7888greeb/444824.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

Now, in between I was a revenge minded cutthroat who knew much about the fortifications of Havana as well as time tables for fleet movements in and out of the harbor.
Did I mention not having a problem sharing such knowledge ... for a price.
<img src="http://www.pix8.net/pro/pic/7888greeb/243348.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

Grim, feel free to use "El Polaco" as he was known back then, as a spy, captain, whatever, in your quest.
<img src="http://www.pix8.net/pro/pic/7888greeb/243347.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

Hee hee, Petros! Those are just great! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Brain kinda mushy. And this is a topic where that will _not_ be helpful. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />
So I'll respond ASAP tomorrow.

That´s a great idea, Petros, having to meet up with an informer telling you when the Treasure Fleet arrives. Note taken, I´ll keep it in mind <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" /> !
Your guy´s great, too, my compliments on him <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Grimm, I think you have a neat quest idea. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Petros, that there is an _awesome_ skin. About the most /human/ looking character in POTC I've yet seen.

Regarding names:

Re: godfathers. Heh, I am never, _ever_ going to live that down. CCC, if any of us deserves godfatherhood, as head of the Merciless Minions of Mes--err, /Des/--truction, the Vice City squad, it be you. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Now somewhat ironically, I'm generally of your (Rad's) opinion regarding placing ourselves in POTC (or any other game); for those who demand historical realism, having a name one knows--especially an obviously "online" name--can shatter supsension of disbelief, so crucial for historical sims (or any other kind of "serious" game).
But then there are those who /aren't/ looking for a "serious" game, for whom being reminded it's a game--in a gloriously tongue-in-cheek way like in the better LucasArts adventures--is a positive blessing.
For me, using nicks as characters is a subset of that--"we know it's a game, so let's have fun."
So just like with that other realism vs. game balance (sim vs. arcade), I come down on both sides at various times--something that's true for most of us, I'd wager.

Now, in terms of implementation, we can add a toggle to BS.h to assign random names to the alter-ego (or otherwise fictitious) characters, even a toggle to randomize models, and that'll take care of most of it (aside from characters' personhood/personality influencing the story, which we can't so easily toggle away); but as somebody above said, you needn't play the quest.

Me, I'll probably play it (and love it!) some games, and avoid it in others, depending on mood. Again, I don't doubt but that I'll not be alone in doing so. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
