Well, theres a lot of files my computer cant read in PotC. I was wondering if you people who's computers can read them would show me where to download it? I found the Foobar2000 at CKNOW.com for the .ogg music files, and the gimp does .tga, and theres the transformer in the FTP here. What about the others?

What others do you know? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

.ogg files work with any media player IF you have the plugin installed.

.tx files can be converted, and .tga can be read with most of the image viewing and editing programs. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

A number of files are native to POTC.
Inez wrote a tool to edit and modify the GM files (and the AN files too now)
Many files are plaintext--try opening them in notepad.
I have no idea what the ZAP files are, some kind of bitmap or something for seafoam and bump.
COL files are vertex lighting / color for locations.
QCH, I dunno (something to do with geometry though)
Am I missing any?

.ptc are character patches (where you can go). They can also be opened with the tool.

Was it mentioned that the plaintext files that are most interesting are the .c and .h file ? Those are the scripts.

Hmm. I cant seem to load .tga in most image files. ah well, I should have the GIMP running soon.

Any missed out files

.SHA files in techniques
.DLL files in MODULES
.OLD files in the Program then Quests files
In animation/Heads, most of the files dont have a dot something
Then theres things in the INI file, in the ALIASES folder.
The saved games in the SAVE folder,

If any of these are very relavent to the game, I dont know, but the ones you listed, Nathan, are the main ones in the Program and Resourse folder, and I dont know if the modules folder is relavent to modding.

Thanks for the ones that you gave <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

SHA are Shaders. Nathan seems to understand them.
DLLs are machine code, and we can't mod them (wish we could).

.DLL files are like .ZIP files, containing lots of code, if I understood correctly. Only nobody has figured out how to open them. So that's annoying if you want to change someof the code in there, because you can't.
The .OLD files are superfluous backup files that are not used by the game. I suppose they could be opened with any text editor.
The .INI files can be opened with any text editor as well.
The savegame files can be opened by the game itself, provided you have a proper installation to go with it. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

<span style='color:red'>Edit:</span> You've got to admit it's busy here this evening. More like a chatroom than a forum with the amount of posts being posted every minute. LOL. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Heh, yeah.
HKD, sounds like maybe you have "hide extensions" turned on. It'll make more sense if you turn that off (it may be the things you think are tga's are actually tga.tx's).
sha files are shader code--a funky version of C, for graphics. I don't understand it per se--I surely can't do them from scratch--but I can copy/paste or change values. But they're so closely tied to the engine that we can't really change their I/O, just what's done with the I before it becomes O.

In the windows explorer, click "Extra" > "Folder options" (or something similar). There should be a "hide extensions" setting there to turn off.

Pieter, isn't it "Tools"? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> I see no "Extra"...

It very well might be. I have a Dutch Windows version and there it says "Extra". But if I remember correctly, it used to be "Tools" in the Dutch version as well once. So I'm not quite sure. But Hu Kwan Do seems to have found it anyway. (Language differences between programs are SOOOOO annoying!)

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/urgh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":urgh" border="0" alt="urgh.gif" /> Yes, they are. I'm trying to help my non-computermaniac friends in Hungary, and I don't really know what the options are on thir screen, as my Windows is english.

Oh, I've found it, I just thought I'd tell others who may be confused. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/happy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="^_^" border="0" alt="happy.gif" />

Hey...if AlexusB made the A&M add-on through dll files so it is moddable right?? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

Ask him. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/happy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="^_^" border="0" alt="happy.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Heh <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> ...but no interest on that <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

If you mod them, I think you can screw up the game permanantly, so its not safe unless you want to revert to backups _all_ the time.
