So those of you (lucky) people that have the game, can you post your immediate thoughts on it. I won't be getting mine until like friday or maybe monday. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_eek.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="icon_eek.gif" />

Sticky maybe? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/diomed.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dio" border="0" alt="diomed.gif" />

Sure, why not? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

The games 'feels' great. I played Cutthroats years ago, and I remember it being buggy and choppy. The gameplay with Pirates feels more fluid.

The DVD extras are pretty cool too. They included Pirates! Gold. Which should be fun. I remember playing that on an Apple in about 1988.

Wasn't Pirates! gold released in 1993? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

Well, I got it to run on my 933!! A bit slow perhaps, but playable. I've only played for a little bit but the game seems pretty good to me, worth the wait. One thing I would like to know is, why was tobacco removed from the game as a commodity. It wasn't known as a health hazard in this time period, so what happened??
Still getting used to the controls, etc. but outdueled the captain of the Spanish ship I attacked. Going to read the manual and take a break for my back for a bit, but it seems pretty good so far. I'm really not too good with game descriptions but may post some more later on.

First impression: Why in the world does this game not support the native resolution of my 19"LCD monitor?!? (1280x1024)

Lower resolution looks desent, gameplay is great. I've played Pirates! back in 89 on the Amiga and liked the element of surprise when engaging a ship. The new version takes that away. Anyway, great game so far, the fighting mode is much better than expected!

The reason you see the ships this time is for it to create a world around you - Those ships interact with everything! A ship can be transporting a new governor to a location - attacking the governor's ship means a restless town ripe for the taking!

A pirate hunter can be chasing you down too ... so look out!

Why in the world is there only intermittant talking from the characters? And when they do talk, it's in a foreign language. Anyone else getting this as well? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

The labuage is a gibberish langauge fondly called "Firaxian". It's supposed to be that way.

Hehe, we might need to make a sticky that says "Pirates Speech" or something. I can see this one coming up alot <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I am new here and I registered just to post my impressions.

It is the biggest mistake I have ever made purchasing Pirates. I really hate this game!!!

Now you would think I really don't like Pirates just from this comment but let me explain. I used to play Pirates on my C64 back when I was a young teen. I loved it so much I was playing it for over 3 years, it is that good. Now I am much older, married with 2 children, and with tons more responsibilities. I have very fond memories of playing Pirates, Pirates Gold and so on. Problem is when you remember something at a younger age and then try and pick it up again when your older ever notice its never as good as you remember?

This is not the case with the new Pirates. It is SO much better and yet the same game I remember. I can't explain it with words, but this feels so much like the original game. The wonder, the excitement, its all there in spades. This IS the game I have been waiting for when I was hoping for a sequel.

I picked the collectors edition of Pirates up at my local EB yesterday on a whim. I have Halo 2, GTA: San Andreas, World of Warcraft, and many other recently released games. But yet I pick up Pirates on a spur of the moment decision. Now every other game I have purchased is going to sit on the shelf and collect dust. That is why I "hate" this game. I spent over $400 on games in the past 2 months, and it was all a waste. Simply because I did not expect Pirates to be as good as I remembered. Not only that but I have logged 12 hours play it since I picked it up yesterday, so I am worried my family will not see me much for a while. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

Phew, enough about my ranting. If you would like to know more I will try and answer any questions I can. I DO strongly suggest anyone who remembers Pirates or Pirates Gold fondly to drop any other plans they had and pick this up now. It is worth ever penny.

5 out of 5 Pirates <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

Only have played it for a couple hours now, played the original and Sega's version. This game is simply a lot of fun!! Great manual and real easy to learn. You really can just start the game and figure everything out quickly without the manual. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

More options to choose from and way better graphics. I do miss the option to attack towns with a ship though cuz I never like land battles anyway. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":c" border="0" alt="mad.gif" />

Can't wait for the mods for this game! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

----Captain Blood <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

Yeah everyone is talking about the manual, it must be good! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

I'm still not sure which edition we get here in New Zealand, generally the European versions but ours comes out tomorrow where as the Euro version is made on the 3rd... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Still I'm sure what's in them is pretty much the same..

Gauging the opionion in the forum so far, even if I can´t get it in Germany yet, buying Atari stock might be a good idea <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

I've been playing around since yesterday and here are a few thoughts. The DVD take about 5 mins. to install. The paper map is nice but useless. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" /> The ingame map is great. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> Graphics are just what you'd expect, they really pull you into the game. A nice polished feel to it and no bugs so far. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> Ship battles can get very involved and take awhile to play out. And they look so cool. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" /> Swordfights are a whoot. All in all it looks and plays great. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> And the best part is..... "Pirates" makes time disappear.......just like the orginal did. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />

I admit, that I was a bit sceptical after installing the game yesterday since it doesn't support the native resoluion of my LCD monitor. After having played the game for 6 hours straight, I can only say, that this game is absolutely awesome! The graphics are excellent (NOT 'decent' as I've stated yesterday). I now can not imagine them to be any better! I am as fascinated as I was back in '89/90 when I played Pirates on the Amiga. Pirates has always ranked among my 3 favorite games that I've ever played and the new version is a worthy successor. There is so much attention to detail and great gameplay, it has to be seen to be believed. KUDOS to Sid Meyer & team - you folks are true artists!

eventought im on a laptop, i found it pretty easy to adapt to key and mouse. And i just noticed keymap.ini... i might play in there to have a awsd config.

Great game! I was hungry when i got it and it was 4 pm... I went to bed at 4 am without pissing and eating. Say it all.

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />

I do have a bug, the pants of my character ( only the hero ) are almost ( only 1/3 of the times but still..) always messed...like you can see throught them. Oh well.
