Today I managed to install Alexus mod and started play it in Russian. I just only started to play it as Jack Sparrow and I am in pirate settlement Nevis. I never though I would manage to install this Add-On into my English European version PoTC Russian Add-On but it is working (at lest so far)! I am very glad because it seems to me it will be great experience and enterteinment because it seems to me the playing will be a little different from playing with Builds and Modpack which I know wery well already. Welcome to the Sea Legend experience, Rad.

I'm well into the game now and am having a ball playing it. It's got some excellent features, particularly the new RPG element. It's also very challenging and makes you work very hard to do most things and to improve your character. This along with the RPG element of course helps you immerse yourself and value your character much more. It makes for a heightened gaming experience for me. My Russian is minimal, however I find that I can usually navigate my way through the common dialogues reasonably well. Looking forward to the English translation.

Still love the Build mod as well, though. Both mods have their own unique qualities.

p.s. I'm working on a translation of the old A&M Manual as well as the FAQ from the Sea Legend site which covers most of the new features of the latest version (next best thing to an updated manual), and which I can make available on the FTP if you or anyone else is interested. It's a big help.
 
Did you have all installed? After I set out to the see when I approach to Puerto Rico my game crashes. I am sad from that. How did you installed it? Maybe I did anything bad? Today I reinstalled all the game anew (I did it wrongly previously) and it seems to me it works well now. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

Hi Charles. I only started to play it today and furthermore my computer completely crashed so I don´t know anything more detailed. But one thing I know surely. This Add-On is much difficult for playing than game with Build + Modpack. You can very try so as you would survive, especially what about fencing skirmishes concerns. Hiya Charles

-Each skill is rated from 1 to 100 now and improvements in that particular skill can only be achieved by the use of that skill. E.g. Accuracy skill will only increase by actually scoring hits on enemy ships.

-Skills are also separated into personal and ship.

-There are three different sword skills, foils and daggers, sabres and cutlasses, and heavy swords and broadswords and each skill can only be ipmroved by the use of the associated sword type.

-There are more different attributes for both personal and ship.

-There are characteristics ratings for your character which will influence skills, e.g. strength, agility, charisma, endurance, etc.

-Certain minimum sailing skill levels are required to captain different classes of ships without penalty, e.g. sailing skill of 25 allows you to captain class 5 and 6 ships without penalty... you can captain higher classes but with penalty to skills.

-There is a long term health metre... excessive wounds in combat can reduce this and lead to penalties in personal skills... and restoration of this health metre often requires resting in tavern, for example, or sometimes a visit to a priest.

Just some of the RPG features I can think of at the moment. It's worth checking out particularly with the English translation not far away.

I've just been over at the Sea Legend site. Pieter has just recently asked of this and they've said very soon for the English translation. Sounds like maybe within the next couple of weeks.

It'll be worth the wait I'm sure as this mod is excellent.

p.s. The sea map for SLiB is the same as the New Islands mod sea map, only some of the location names are different. There is a pic of the New Islands sea map elsewhere on the forum (New Islands topic I think).
 
RE rpg elements: Sounds really good. Reminds me of Bethesda's good old RPG Daggerfall which I enjoyed very much.

Especially that feature makes sense to me. Your gunnery should be improved by training your crew and not by killing skeletonpirates. Once started a mod where certain gameplay actions slowly increased the appropriate skills. Basically not difficult to code, but probably VERY difficult to balance it to everyone's playstyle. Well, maybe I'll resume that some time next year.

hm, the personal characteristics on the lefthand side toward the top are an acrostic for "special"... that must have been intentional for some reason.

It includes such items as intellect... I wonder how that affects gameplay.

This Add-On is completely different from Builds and Modpack. The most things are very good here but several things I don´t much like here. The great thing is that everything dynamically change in the course of time, and there are many good side quests here, gambling in taverns is great etc. The game is very hard for playing, which is good, but what I can´t be accustomed for are cannons and their shooting. Max cannons ranges are very short and all their ballistics curves are very high too. But what is good is I didn´t meet any bug here so far, which is very important too, I think. By my opinion if there would be a combination of both - the ships and cannons from Build+Modpack and the all other things from AlexusB Add-On so, I think that in this case this Add-On would be really great. S - Strength - influences to Heavy & Medium weapon, HP and maximum of weight
P - Perception - influences to Accuracy and Sneak
E - Endurance - Repair & Defence, also HP & weight
C - Charisma - Leadership & Commerce, also maximum of officers depeds of it
I - Intellect - Commerce, Cannons, Sailing
A - Agility - Light & Medium weapon, Pistols, Grappling, also how many times in battle you can jump
L - Luck - Pistols, Fortuna, Sneak

Yes, Navy, you are right I had badly adjusted my game. Now I set up fast battle and nonlinear cannons and all the sea playing and fighting is better. If cannons would shoot at longer distances and with ballisitc curve flatter, so, I would be satisfied complety. Navy: When you say jump in battle, do you mean that back-slide motion that is by default the z key?

Been playing this game all week by the way, now that I have finally gotten it to work after trying several times over the past year or two, however long it's been out. I love the RPG elements, like the skillsets, leveling up and so on; and the new quests, like hunting down bands of raiders (I just did 6 in one day) and tracking down people who owe the loansharks money. Really tough though, I am dying constantly... so I have mixed feelings about having to pay to save, though that is a nice touch really.

I think my biggest favorite new thing is the two little tavern games, blackjack and yatzee. I spend half my time just playing those. I'd like to be able to win a ship over a game, or acqire an officer that way...

Yeah, that's what he means, Jump or Dodge (z button by default) is limited depending on your Agility. It's a great game isn't it. My understanding of Russian is minimal, but nonetheless, I've managed to get by and progress well into the game. I'm loving it. It has so many great features... RPG character developement, trade, gambling, weapons types, advanced health, new perks, ship handling based on skill, different items....just to name a few, as well as a solid background and new quests. Of course the Build project has many great new features either not seen in the Sea Legend game or in some cases I think superior. Although I think it would probably never happen, I would love to see a combination of all the best aspects of both games into one super mod. Hi, all. I am at thirteen level now and only just now I was able to buy better ship - heavy corvette and I have a big penalties for that too, but never mind. But when I am proceeding in the game, my transition from one level to another is all the time more and more prolonged and my game gets stuck for about 15 second and music becomes got stuck for these moments too. Do you have similar unfavourable experiences with it, For dodging in fencing I use the righ Ctrl key.
