Pistols

What's the use of the pistols? I can't tell any difference in swordfighting whether I have a pistol as a special item or not. Nice cutscene though. Is there a way to fire a pistol during a swordfight?

I have two and I can't notice a difference either.

The very time you jump into battle with the enemy, it gives you a first strike advantage, or someting like that IIRC.

Sure you do. When you board an enemy ship, you see your toon take a shot (or two) at the enemy captian. This causes your starting position in your duel to be a couple notches further, like maybe the equivalent of a couple of thrusts. I guess Im just not observant, because I have the belt of 2 or 3 pistols, and in the cut scene the opponent always misses me, and I always hit him, but never noticed that it gave me any advantage in the starting position. I'll have to look more closely next time I start over and dont have the pistol yet. I would have though that it would be a random event perhaps the output would have been by die roll so that it affects how fast you or your oponent can attack because the gunshot wounded one of you, but it doesnt seem to be the case.
