Pistols . . . What do they do?

What is the point of buying a pistol, i bought one and now before every duel a small movie plays in which i dodge a pistol shot then return fire and hit. Does this actually have any effect on the `sword-duel`?

They definatly do! For example, during the fight at the Inn, 3 normal swipes are required to knock the evil dude over the balcony. With 1 pistol 2 swipes are required and with the pistol belt only 1 swipe is required.
