I just got the hottest thing around those waters a few days ago, and I'm impressed!

I'll have to admit that I was expecting little from a cartoonish `kiddie-styled` pirate game, and that may be why I am not too deceived.

Cool things:
-cartoonishly fun exagerated models
-privateering
-governor's daughters
-city raids and installing governors
-living and fluctuating economy
-sometimes hostile indians
-computer raids
-Jesuits

Bad things:
-RANKS! please go beat some sense into Sid Meier! Colonel and Major are NOT naval ranks, and nobility does NOT modify your uniform :p they should have added ranks from Lieutenant to Admiral passing trough Commodore, rear and vice admiral at least or NOT giving any, for Pirates or Privateers do not have ranks other than 'captain'
-not very realist
-Where is the FEARSOME Captain Florent "Le Diable" D'Artois???

Overall a fun game with all the clichés of the genre, and no pretensions.
 
I don't think it's about nautical ranks. It's just ranks. I guess Count or Marquis isn't a nautical nor military rank either.

Well, been trough many campaigns, seen lots of action, and I can't wait for the war to be over. I have plans to be `a-werking` as a sommelier in a fine restaurent soonish. Life is ok, but the food is downright awful out here!

Dun be surprised, I'm jes full o 'em surprises! Now I'm waiting on Imperial Glory (release date march 3rd) for my realistic Naval combats!
 
Damn. There is a bunch of information in the manual of the US version that is missing in the european version. I never read something about this. I wished, I could get my hands on it...

On the topic of ranks

As ex Aussie Army, I agree, the Navy doesn't have Major and such, they have commanders and people with gold bars and poofy white uniforms (couldn't help that dig, hahahahaha) <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />

Question, why does the navy issue soap on a rope?

In regards to the manual, I do believe there are some chunks of important gameplay both missing and not in it, I think they were corrected in a word doc file within the game folder.. But dont quote me <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bookish.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="bookish.gif" />
