Dis be part o' Fred Bob's current game in which he be essentially a pirate hunter. He only be attackin' pirates period, no nations' ships at all. De advantage be dat since Fred Bob be friendly tew all 4 nations, he kin play delivery boy when it be suitin' him, tew gain rank an' favor on all sides! Jus' anudder way tew play... next game Fred Bob'll prolly not accept a LOM from nobody an' BE a pirate, attackin' ALL nations, an' talkin' tew NO stinkin' Gov'nors! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pirate_plain.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p3" border="0" alt="pirate_plain.gif" />

Tsss... you're a sneaky, sneaky bastard. Great info. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I find it funny to go to a settlement and get asked to escort a governor, then attack and plunder the ship I'm supposed to escort. I expect it to work the first time, but the funny thing is I can go from settlement to settlement doing it over and over again.

Aye, ddmagnan! Same goes fer escortin' war ultimatums an' peace missions! Ye kin plunder de messengers! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Tew bad ye cain't hold de wannabe Gov'nors fer ransom! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="8)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" />

Hmmm, now what about Indians raiders, Fred Bob be a wonderin'? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> How kin Fred Bob be exploitin' dat situation? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Why not? I use the captured Mail Runner with all the goodies, and few captured War Canoes. Sinking pirates don´t seem to boost your rep as much as taking the enemy nations, but I´ll do that to lessen the inevitable effect of looting the wrong payroll ship. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> Maybe I should use your tactic FB, to get my rep up with Spaniards. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whippa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":whipa" border="0" alt="whippa.gif" />

Hmmm, gonna hafta find out if'n `double-crossin`' de Injuns kin be as much fun as `double-crossin`' de Pyrates! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pirate_plain.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p3" border="0" alt="pirate_plain.gif" /> Now imagine gittin' ye a whole fleet o' War Canoes! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> Who's gonna be de first tew take a War Galleon wid one o' dem Canoes? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="8)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" />

I don't own the game yet, but how is this for a strategy? You find a country with a very wealthy city. You ally for that country and build up a lot of respect with them. Then you build an army and conquer the wealthy city. They shouldn't expect you to attack since you're on their side.

Doesn't matter, the forces defending the city will be the same size regardless of your status with the nation.

Makes Sense, you´re not the only pirate around.
I wouldn´t capture the couriers carrying delcerations of war, wars, after all, are profitable affairs. Those goddammit peace treaties however, they´ve got to be intercepted. They ruin my business.

You´re late. Pierre le Grand did that already. About three hundred and seventy years back <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

This has made me think that what this game needs is a skirmish mode. And it should be both single and multiplayer. One to four people just choose ships and go at it. You could limit what upgrades are available or not, whether boarding is allowed, what ship types are allowed, etc.

For the singleplayer, you'd choose up to three opponents ships, set them up as you wish, choose your ship and configuration, then go at it. T'would definitely be nice for practicing maneuvers and such.

Speaking of which, has anyone gotten battles with more than two enemy vessels at once? Have never seemed to get more than two myself.

seems as far as I can tell,dey only travel in pairs, <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

I was under the impression that the xbox version was going to have a skirmish mode like you describe.

Two is the maximum number of ships that you will fight at once according to the manual.

I have seen convoys of 4 ships before sailing like this;

................................X
............................ X...X
................................C

The 3 x's were war sloops and the C was a war Galleon, when I engaged them only 2 dropped into combat mode. Very dissapointing.

NOTE: the dots are the keep the letters in place otherwise they just move back to the left when I post.

Ahh i thought that was the water trail, thanks for clearing that up GI

Ahh i kill me <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

I guess what I should add is, they were sailing North relative to the diagram. (up). With the Sloops of War protecting the War Galleon.

What impressed me was, it's an honest to (insert deity here) military formation. I have only seen it once. It impressed me. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

Aye,would be great tew 'ave 4 ships ur more pound'n away at ye,more O' challenge, wonder why Sid allowed only two ships te battle ye,kinda dissapointed

The same thing works for the indians, but it can can work out even better if you keep up with the indians and follow them until they are attacked. Anytime you get help from pirates or indians, the game sends out a couple of ships to intercept them. I have just recently started doing this, so I haven't really tested it thoroughly, but what I have noticed is that when you get the pirate captain to send pirates to raid a town, they will be intercepted by a couple of privateers bearing the flag of one of the nations. However, if you get the Chief to send an indian raiding party to a town, the indians will be intercepted by pirate privateers. So, the best course of action is to get the Chief to send out the war canoes, then follow them for a bit until the pirates come to intercept. If you do it right you can capture 3 war canoes and 2 pirate boats all right together, in a very short time (you still only get to fight 2 at a time). Killing 3 indian boats and 2 pirate boats will get you a promotion or pretty close to it.
