Pirate MMO's List

DonkeyPirate

Well, I thought it might be a time to create a thread with all the Pirate MMO's (the ones we have to pay for and the free ones).
I won't go into too much detail, since I haven't tried all of them myself and I think it's better if everyone makes an opinion about them on his own.
This is just make people aware of Pirate MMO's they might never heard of.

Feel free to put in links to games I missed (or don't know about).

Let's start!

Okay, we all know "Pirates of the Burning Sea", but here the link anyway (Check the PA! PotBS forum section for more info):
<a href="http://www.burningsea.com/" target="_blank">http://www.burningsea.com/</a>

Also know to most (but more due to the movies) is Pirates of the Caribbean Online
<a href="http://www.piratesonline.com/" target="_blank">http://www.piratesonline.com/</a>

Puzzle Pirates should be know by many too (it's been around for quite a while now):
<a href="http://www.puzzlepirates.com/" target="_blank">http://www.puzzlepirates.com/</a>

Other MMO's that are around for a while are Bounty Bay online and Voyage Century Online (I think they are both the same game, but Bounty Bay Online is the name a German distributor renamed it to bring it out on the European market).
<a href="http://www.bountybayonline.com/en/Startpage/" target="_blank">http://www.bountybayonline.com/en/Startpage/</a>
<a href="http://vc.igg.com/" target="_blank">http://vc.igg.com/</a>

A game I played and fun as a game for in-between is Tales of Pirates:
<a href="http://top.igg.com/" target="_blank">http://top.igg.com/</a>

A game I'm really waiting for is Florensia. Nice graphics and could be a fun game for in-between.
<a href="http://www.florensia.eu/" target="_blank">http://www.florensia.eu/</a>

World of Pirates reminds me of the old SM Pirates! (strangely you have to pay to play this one):
<a href="http://www.worldofpirates.com/" target="_blank">http://www.worldofpirates.com/</a>

Also to pay for is Tradewind Legends and Avast! (two games I wonder why I should pay anything for them):
<a href="http://www.arcadetown.com/tradewindslegends/game.asp" target="_blank">http://www.arcadetown.com/tradewindslegends/game.asp</a>
<a href="http://www.planetozkids.com/ozzoom/games/avast-game.htm" target="_blank">http://www.planetozkids.com/ozzoom/games/avast-game.htm</a>

Found Dogs of Sea, Sea Odyssey and Pirate Quest by accident (I think they are all browser based game and I wonder how many more of these are around):
<a href="http://www.dogsoftheseas.com/" target="_blank">http://www.dogsoftheseas.com/</a>
<a href="http://www.sea-o.net/" target="_blank">http://www.sea-o.net/</a>
<a href="http://www.piratequest.net/" target="_blank">http://www.piratequest.net/</a>

Hope some of you will find something they enjoy. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

Hello All

Some small snippets of information to add to the above list (I am not aware of any others to add).

World of Pirates is a one off payment only - and a small one at that. It's 100% PVP so not for the faint hearted. It does have that "must have one more go" quality about it and I still play occasionally (although never raised a character high enough to compete in PVP). Great community but boy do they squabble. Like all MMOs the experience is heightened by the occasional "Character". There are loads of "characters" in WOP, some nice, some very nasty, but that's part of the thrill - you never know who's out there waiting for you.

Bounty Bay Online is the same game as VCO - but pay to play. VCO is technically free but in order to have any chance against the players with deep wallets it's pretty necessary to visit the in-game item mall and spend some real world money.

Florensia looks interesting, I had not heard of that one, shame the ships look a bit pants.

regarding Tradewinds:
I see, that teaches me well to judge a game I never played.

regarding World of Pirates:
And again my mistake. I though it was a monthly fee. A one off payment sounds much better.

tradwinds is a little buggy though. one of the main quests is bugged, so you get stuck. the other three work just fine. however, you can make your own custom main quest by selecting your career and i think your personality too, though i'm not too sure of that. you can select your nationality as well, which effects the palce where you start and get your missions from. this becomes available after you finish one of the basic main quests.

I didn't have any bug issues, though I didn't play all of the quests. The only problem I have with this game is the replay value, it really isn't there. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

I have found another game you might like to check out:

It's called <b>Caribic Islands</b> and is a fun free browser game. You can find it under:

<a href="http://www.caribicislands.com" target="_blank">www.caribicislands.com</a>

There are a couple of long-term servers, as well as a server with a game goal, that's being reset once the goal (500.000 alliance points) is reached. You can play by yourself, or join alliances. You start by choosing an ocean and a starting island (you can colonize up to 200 islands), then continue by developing your island, building ships, training soldiers and colonizing neighboring islands. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/duel_pa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ixi" border="0" alt="duel_pa.gif" />

Check it out!

what's the specs? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

specs? Do you mean details/further info? *left my brain at home on the nightstand* <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Ah, okay. Gotcha! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> You actually just need your web browser. Firefox or IE or whichever one you use. You don't need to download anything or install any further plug-ins. Registration and playing is for free, you can, however, if you want to purchase some premium features with real money. It's not necessary, though. I personally have always played without paying anything. Hope that helps! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Hi All

Thankyou - I will see if Caribic Islands passes the "work-internet-filter" test tomorrow - most game sites of any sort (with the exception of Pirates Online for some reason) are blocked at my company. If it passes then it might be a fun diversion for lunchtimes.

Meanwhile I too came across an oddity recently - although I am sure I have seen it mentioned on this site at some time in the past. It's called Seafight. Here's the URL:

<a href="http://www.seafight.com/" target="_blank">http://www.seafight.com/</a>

I cannot tell you anything about it other than that from the You Tube videos on the subject it looks..... odd, somehow too fast - although this might be the videos uploaded rather than the game. Popular by the looks of it though so who am I to judge from mere appearances, perhaps I will give it a try. I will bore you on the subject if I do.

I am fairly sure it's browser based - from the FAQ on their forum.

Bye

Captain Monty

beat ye to it mate. there've been adds for it on the site for several weeks, though i haven't seen them lately.

Oh. I've got AdBlock Plus installed for Firefox, so I guess that's why I've never seen any of them. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
