Included in Build Perks Mod V2.6 Unlockable Perks! (READABLE BOOKS!)

A little update.
There is a line now in Internal Settings for ALLOW_LOCKED_PERKS. If this one is set to 0 then locked perks won't work.
Also I included a function called LockPerk(perkname). This will lock a perk.

Btw I didn't tell yet but the description of the perk can be changed when it's locked.
In the file RESOURCE\INI\TEXTS\ENGLISH\AbilityDescribe.txt you can add a field like this:

Gain a gouvernors trust to enable this Perk. (The crop yield is 50% higher on the character's estates)

It will show this text then when the perk is locked. I'm thinking of making this a perk property but not sure yet.
If you dont set a text for the perk is will show "Locked (...description...)" where ...description.. will be the normal description.

Another quick update to fix a bug where some images weren't shown if the perk was taken.
Also made sure (I hope) that officers don't have locked perks already.
 
any sugestions about how to unlock other perks are welcome
 
How 'bout for the Instant Boarding ability, you get to search a mythic and magical relic first as the ability is VERY MAGICAL. Same story like finding Isla de Muerta.
Here's my dreamed and crazy vision:p (Here comes another impossible one):
  • You hear rumors and or stories about this magic relic from beggars and old people you randomly meet. (I say some in the jungles)
  • Then you get to find persons who have the different pieces of the MAP of the mythical relic. (w/c may or may not come with a price)
  • These people may be scattered from the worst places in the Caribbean.
  • And the location of this ultimate relic will be one of the worst and last place you'd want to go. (with them skeletons and or monks)
  • Making the ability one of the ULTIMATE PRIZES you can find/have/obtain from your adventures in the Caribbean.
  • Just a peak of my CRAZY idea...hehehe :p - it sounds like an unfinished storyline.
  • But the short and simple idea is on my first sentence. (Here: you get an item from a person leading you to this place where the relic is and unlock the ability.)
I always wanted to make that ability a PRIZE, if only I knew what I was and am doing to make this vision happen.
Like if Disney have his Aztec Gold & Isla de Muerta, PA will have this Relic & Catacomb. (I can't think of a good name atm:D)

Well, that's my vision. It may be impossible but I still want to share it. :)
EDIT: This post makes me want to write a story/scene/events. Hehehe.

Oh! oh and how 'bout the Landing Party, Iron Will and Fire ship to be unlocked with a Leadership skill of 8 or higher? :D and yeah, with the thing with the books too.
 
Davy Jack remember all perks have to be unlockable in all storylines so the things to do should fit all storylines. These are some of my idea's (the ones in italic are removed in realistic settings and the ones underlines are removed if you go ironman mode):

Combat Skills Group
BasicDefence - aviable from start
AdvancedDefence - find a book about blocking techniques
Toughness - Get it from a band of thugs in the jungle, they will only give it if you really scare them
CriticalHit -available from start
SwordplayProfessional - Finish high level sword practice
Rush - aviable from start
Gunman - available from start
GunProfessional - Find a book about gun firing
GunFighter - Only in certain storylines

Ship Control Abilities
ShipTurnRateUp - available from start
ShipSpeedUp - available from start
Turn180 - Get from captain if you spare his ship and crew during boarding
SandbankManeuver - available from start
StormProfessional - Survive 5 twisters

SailingProfessional - Go to the naval school (forgot where but I know it's there) and finish a little quest I will make there

Ship Combat Abilities
BasicBattleState - available from start
AdvancedBattleState - Find a book about protecting your ship
ShipDefenceProfessional - Capture a fort
FastReload - available from start
ImmediateReload - Finish fetch quest for the smith

Sailing professional: Are you talking about the naval academy on Antigua? How do you go there when the British are hostile?

What is: Trooper? Brander? Governor Title?

Trooper = Landing Party
Brander = Fire Ship

Gouvernor title is what is explained here before. You need to have a certain rank for a country to get it.
Good point about the british being hostile. Need to think that over.

It seems the settings for the persk (realistic and iron man) is kinda messed up atm ... someone else changed things in it and I have no idea now what the settings mean. Have to look into it.

I like that there's a lot of different situations that unlock the perks.
Like sidequests. The book idea too but maybe some more perks could be unlocked if you actually have
done something (practising it).
Maybe AdvancedDefence, Gunprofessional gets unlocked after a number of blocks/shots?
Or will that only mean the player just shoots and shoots and shoots?

Do we already have some walking salesmen offering to teach you a perk for money?
Else that could be something?

As we only got 10 basic skills in POTC the perks get important/interesting. We could do with some more I think.
 
Some bugfixes concerning the different realism settings. It should be set right now.
Press F11 after you are in your savegame to reinit the perks.
Don't worry perks wont get locked. it will just set the new realism settings, if you are playing in realistic abilities mode you will find you have a few new perks and in iron man mode things should be the same I think.

That was Aconcagua. There are now two levels of realism that you can switch between.
Check with him in PM; he wrote something about it last week, if I recall.

Yeah I know, but he got it all mixed up.
He mixed up the realism settings and realistic abilities (because I did so before :p).
It's right now ;).

I changed the overview so it shows which perks are not avaible in which mode and changed what pieter sugested.

If you haven't unlocked it a officer can't learn it. And if I did it right they shouldn't have the perks also when you find them.

Just having to shoot things I personally don't like. I have included 1 now for the storms. I did think about sinking X number of ships etc. but for now I'm not sure about that. We could add it ofcourse if people wanted it.

Nope we don't have yet. That's why I sugested the traveling cannoneer and carpenter to learn you the master skills. Theire training would require you to pay ofcourse.

Reuploaded the mod with a reinit so no new savegame required now. Just press F11. Perks wont get locked tough. For that you do need a new savegame.
Also a minor bugfix. Seems elseif is just interpeted as else { if so I had to include another }

Oh yeah, haven't met one in a while. But before there were many. Most I meet for now are the ones with the usual talk about something that will enlighten you.

EDIT: Btw, was the internalSettings.h changed in the updated files from post #153?
