Solved Period Weapons

There's dozens of weapons that are not yet in the Build mod, most of them made by the Russians.
Thomas and I had the idea that these could be added into Build 14 to work together with the Periods mod.
Of course there's not much point in having 100 different blades and guns in the game,
but when there's older blades available in the earlier era's and more modern weapons come available in the later periods,
it could add an interesting realistic flavour to the game.

The coding for it could be pretty simple, consisting of no more than a couple of if-then-else statements around the initialization code.
The rarity value can then be changed for each weapons per period so that older weapons disappear and newer weapons appear.
Also this way the pistols in the first periods could be pretty crappy, while in the last periods, there's dozens of cheap, good firearms.
This could actually change gameplay in later periods, where pistols start to take over from blades.

The main challenge would be to actually add all these weapons to the Build mod, including interface pictures for six different qualities.
Also some work would need to be done on the damage and rarity values for each weapon in each period.

So what do you people think of this idea? Any comments and suggestions? And would anybody be willing to work on it?

That way we don't have rapiers and longswords in the Napoleonic period, since these weapons were outdated then. The russians made some really nice weapons, including a bunch of smallswords, rapiers and a lot of pistols. Wheellock (16th/early 17th century), Queen Anne flintlocks (ealry 18th century) and percussion (late 18th begin 19th century).

It would also be cool if citizens in the 16th century would mostly wear swords, and only the military wear guns too. And in Napoleonic times, vice versa: Most citizens guns and their fist, and the military muskets/pistols and swords.

This way we can add again a little bit of extra flavour to the game,

and as Pieter said, it isn't THAT hard.

Where is the stuff ? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

All I can say is, that it is a really good and usefull idea guys.
Now let´s hope for somebody with coding skills would come around and do this - because it makes sense in every way!

The coding required wouldn't be overly complicated. It'd just require a fair amount of work.

The idea sounds great.

As for the different image types. You could do a simple BG color indicator with the blade not changing apearance untill broken and that shiny lens flare for the best condition.

You could have something like gold, green, blue and red where gold represents fine and red represents badly worn.

That way youd get away with making only 2 blade images and the rest only a simple BG recoloring (2 seconds with layers) and the lens flare can be done VIA the effects option in photoshop.

This would dramatically scale down the work per image required for 1 weapon.

But then that would need to be done for all blades, otherwise it'd feel out of place. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />
Good idea though; perhaps it could be done by changing the brightness/contrast of the blade itself?
In any case, would anybody be willing to try and do something with this?
BTW: Can anybody post in this thread links to all files that contain unused weapons for the Build mod?

Well i can do the contrast.

But editing the or making the weapon is beyond my art skills.

As for all the weapons. There is a faster way.

All the weapon icons are of the same size. So all you need is a grid of that size and place all the weapons into that grid. Edit the contrast of all at the same time and then save the contests of each grid acordingly.

It would take a long time, but its not really dificult work and still less work than going to edit each weapon seperatly.

They would all need a comon BG though.

Would anybody be willing to work on adding new weapons into the game? Without interface pictures if you don't know how to make those. They can always be added later, as long as we've got them.

We've got the files somewhere, but I'm not sure we've got the interface pictures to go with them. And I'm not sure how we can give them their blade-ability either. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

My suggestions:
A: Simple pistol...
B: Simple Pistol, only with bonus to melee (Becouse of „blade“)
C: Simple Pistol, only with bonus to leadership (good looking pistol is realy liked betwean your crew, even if you cant use it <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> )
D: Use as blade, combining with simple pistol... (weird... )

E: Have a "swap function" button. If you have it equipped as blade, when you press it, it'll change to a gun item and vice versa. Problem is: why would you do that if you can have a blade AND a gun?

A few months ago, Thomas showed me some weapons made by a Russian Team. But in that time, I found a problem with the textures. It was impossible to use them in POTC. Today, I found a fix for them. Compared with the original resources, two blades are missing. One because I didn't succeed in fixing it, the another one because I've been already using it as unique blade for the Bartolomeu'sword in my main quest for many months.

Note : In the modelview, you can't see the textures due to the fix but in the game they work ! as you can see in the screenshots (you've got 20 new weapons : blades, axes and daggers)

Cool! Now we'd just need to give them a purpose. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />
Do they come with interface pictures?

No. We need someone for this <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />
Maybe some weapons could be used for some storyline main quests. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

About the interface pictures, you could use some existing pictures until someone makes them.

BTW : I noted two axes using the same texture so it's 19 new weapons instead of 20. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

Cool! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />
