...in 1710, the British completes the Conquest of Acadia by capturing the capitol, Port Royal, Nova Scotia, during Queen Anne's War. Port Royal is the oldest permanent settlement in North America north of St Augustine Florida. It was originally established in 1605. This would set the stage for the French and Indian War 44 years later. A couple of centuries later, Robbie Robertson, guitarist and song writer for the rock group The Band would write a song called Acadian Driftwood about the aftermath of that war.
