Noticing Graphics Changes?

When looking over all the screenshots at GameSpot, I noticed that the graphics for the sea are a little bit different from 5/4/04 than they are from 5/24/04.

Here is one from May 4th:
<a href="http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/sidpirates/screens.html?page=37" target="_blank">http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/sidpir...ns.html?page=37</a>

And here is one from May 24th:
<a href="http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/sidpirates/screens.html?page=46" target="_blank">http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/sidpir...ns.html?page=46</a>

Even the sky looks different in the first screenshot.

If these two are actually updates in graphics, I think that I like the older graphics of the sea... You never know though.

Could just be due to different camera angle too. The first angle is lower, showing the horizon, while the latter is `top-down` looking at just the sea.
Damn I can't wait to get in there and sail around! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bounce.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":b:" border="0" alt="bounce.gif" />

But if you look at all the screenshots from the fourth and earlier, the graphics are all the same, no matter the angle.

The first shot looks like how I saw it at E3, and it was mentioned that the sea graphics would be eventually smoothed out a bit so there wouldn't be so many "artifacts" of past sailings hanging on in the ocean long after you're gone.

THAT is what the second shot looks like. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

i would imagine the "improved seascape" is just a normal occurence in the development cycle. improvements, enhancements, redrawings, tweaks, fixes, blah, blah just happen as the game gets closer to what really counts -> <span style='`font-size`:19pt;`line-height`:100%'><span style='color:green'>number of units sold!!</span></span> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_praise.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="icon_praise.gif" />

I think the new water looks nice... Whether it looks better than the old one is really difficult until you see a video.

I still wait for the surface to reflect light though...

It looks a little bit strange how easy you look through the water surface. You see this especially good if you look at the part of the ship that is bellow the water.

I also agree with MackTheKnife about the text on the sea.. It looks just awful.... Luckily you can avoid to employ a navigator... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

(btw. Still no rotating sailing view... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" /> Can they really skip this in a final version. It would really make the sailing much more enjoyable if they would include it )

DJ, you didn't explain that but i think i also read this somewhere. what you're saying is that if you <b>don't</b> have a navigator you <b>don't</b> see the text, right? but i wonder if the navigator gives you any other benefits like better line of sight or being able to sight enemy ships at a greater distance or being able to spot mermaids after 6 months at sea! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dev.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":d:" border="0" alt="dev.gif" />

I definitely hope that wont be the case....

However an on/off sea text option should be really easy to emplement during the betatetsing.....

We are not the only ones that have complained about it..
