Greetings all,

I have a copy of Pirates that I purchased at retail. I am curious if anyone has made a disc image of their play CD and mounted it as a virtual CD so they could store the original media in a safe place.

I assume doing so is legal.

Any input regarding this subject would be appreciated. I hate keeping a pile of CDs on my desk and shuffling them in and out of the drive. I have about 100 games on my system, so things get disorganized rather quickly.

It´s definetly not legal. If you mean you had to use NO Cd cracks or virtual drives just do it. Hello? Who started the witchhunt?

Just because media industries have lobbied long and hard enought to get some quite questionable copyright laws enacted sure doesn't mean that we have to go right at each others throat, or does it?

I, too am a friend of `no-CD`-cracks, because whenever I want to be able to play my legal property with just a click of an icon I have, in my opinion, every right to do so. Should I be shot now?

As long you do it just for yourself and don't help in theft of intellectual properties I say laws - shmaws. Especially when they are the likes of the DMCA.

I´m not hunting against any witches or so. I know that´s annoying if media doesn´t work cause of Cd Protections, damage, etc.. Sure the copyright laws are questionable and the www is the greatest basar in the world. Does that mean we should all live lawless and do what we want to?

I´m no friend of No Cd Cracks, Virtual Drives and such stuff. I´m proud of having only originals. What you do private Nem is your thing. That doesn´t interest me and has not to interest me. I agree with you if something is your legal property you can do what you want with it. But I don`t accept breaking laws and copying and selling / trading illegal media. If yo have the original stuff its´ok. If you won´t have it it´s not ok in my opinion.

I don´t want to offend or anger anyone. This is how i see `n feel it.

I'm not entirely sure on the issue so no quoting, but I believe having cd images of your own cd's is perfectly legal, providing you do own the real game. Once you have purchased the game once, you can do what you want with it as long as it's not for profit or impeaches whatever licensing laws they made you sign up to when you installed it . And legally I believe you are allowed to make a cd image of your existing game so as to provide yourself with a backup copy. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bookish.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="bookish.gif" />

If virtual drives were illegal, they wouldn't be sold at retail, so please don't talk before you think. I am not using a CD crack, and I've purchased the software license properly.

If you had nothing other than vitriol to contribute, perhaps you should have kept your singularly `non-helpful` comments to yourself?

Or not.

It would be a fairly easy thing to scan and post an image of my original CDs . Of course, I'm not going too since your opinion is nothing more than an opinion, and a fairly unfriendly and unpalatable one at that.

Update: I did a search for other posts on `No-CD` cracks and there are plenty of them on this forum. However, none discuss the actual copy protection scheme by name.

All I need to successfully build my virtual emulator is the copy protection scheme that was used for Pirates! i.e.: Securom 3 or whatever.

Thanks much to anyone who can provide this data.

Afaik: Securom 3 is very hard to emulate. It´s invented by SonyDADC. My proposal for you is to use Alcohol 120% to emulate the copy protection scheme that was used for Pirates. You still have to copy / emulate the profile of the oriiginal CD.

P.S. I´m also a nice guy. Let´s forgot about that stumpling on some foots. Reminds me that I´ll never be a good dancer in RL / Games / WWW .

Thanks. I had that exact software in mind for the purposes I have outlined.

And I'm glad we decided to declare a truce and be amicable.

I have a real hard time with the dancing sequences in Pirates, BTW. Apparently I'm much better with a pistol than I am at dancing.
