I'm not sure you can buy a man-o-war. My favorite method of getting large ships is to sail out and look for encounters between two groups fighting. If the ship I'm looking for is in a hostile group, I'll board and capture it. If not, I'll sail away and try again with another group.

I've had a lot of 74 gun SOL's, but only bought one. The rest were pirate quests given by the governor. Depending on your game settings, you might not encounter a ship this large on a pirate quest.

Considering that you want to board and capture the Black Pearl, you can do that in any ship. As long as it's fast and maneuverable enough to stay out of the gun arcs of the enemy ship, you can take out the sails with chain shot which will leave the Pearl completely immobile, unable even to turn. Or just reduce the sails below about 30%, which will reduce the turn rate by half, making it easier to stay out of the gun arcs while you approach to board. This is how I deal with all large ships in my sloop (with 6 pound cannons! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> ).

So far I have seen the Pirate type 72 gunners for sale..and other " battleship " " line ship " Types...Pirates seem to always have the biguns on sale...next is the Spanish..then the brits..the largest Brit ship I bought was a Large frigate. Unless you count a royal galleon or whatever I bought to carry goods ...I didn't like the waller pinnace...punny little guns don't help much.

I was hoping the ship yard selection kept changing and that line ships would be available....I can always attack the British to get one but I am waiting until the end of the quest line .

I modded the British ships to be slightly better than the rest then the French and Portugese..with different strength and weakness..I liked the way they nerfed the Spanish and pirate ships...seemed realistic enough . So I left them alone .

I have once seen a Battleship for sale at Redmond shipyard, so I think Class 1 ships should be available. But VERY rare.

you can change if they are available in the buildsettings or iternalsettings. the default is that they shouldn't be available, only capturable.

I finally beat the game ...it took all day but I did it...I have the Black Pearl along with the Big Brit Man O war I used to get the BP...

So guys...ummmm now what ?

I aint exactly set up to be a trader...I wanna own my own Island .

why don't you become a pirate and destroy every enemy fort on site? which are A LOT, believe me. this is why i suggested the curse with the coins where you would become enemy of everyone, and become immortal. you should have to get all the aztec coins in the archipelago and put them back in the chest to lift the curse. it would be a real challenge, as you would have to live off the loot from other ships and forts.

Who owns turks ?

And that pirates Isle is also good to used as a base. Damm so many places I didn't go yet... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I have treasure huntin to do .

BTW ...whats the best sword and gun in the game ?

actually it's turk island, but it doesn't show that in the game. it's run by pirates.

the best sword is the solingen rapier. i don't know about the best gun yet, but the best i managed to get so far is the musketoon. i think that the musket is the best.

the musketoon's stats: (no quality)

damage: 60/80 (max damage IS sure)
accuracy: 70 or 80%
loading time: long (40 sec. or so)
ammo: not sure, i think it's grapeshot, but it could also be musket bullets.
it looks like a big wooden club, actually. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

that's not much use is it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":blah:" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

solingen rapier: (excellent)

93% block
78% pierce
something ranging from 40+ damage (but i have no idea if that's right, it might be 60 or less)
it looks like a golden silver leaf.

I read about a tattoo parlor but cant find it .

Now you have me intrigued with digging up stuff...

I guess i need a hint on that and how to find all the stuff the Doc ( pharmacist ) wants .

well, i'm not sure, but i guess you find the stuff you need at higher levels. if found two of the ingredients you need in the maltese abbey, so it also depends on the location. maybe it will be included in treasure chest as well.

As far as I know, finding the ingredients is just luck. You'll find them in chests (and *possibly* on corpses if you can manually loot them, which I can't with my BS.h settings). If there's anywhere they can be bought, I don' t know about it.

In addition to the 4 ingredients, you'll need 500 gold per character level in your personal wealth (NOT the ship money). Don't be surprised if you're level 10 or 20 before you find all the ingredients. At level 10 it will cost you 5,000. At level 20 it will cost you 10,000. Considering that you start the game with only 500 wealth, accumulating the wealth might take a while too. You accumulate wealth from income from land granted when you have a letter of marque, or by dividing the loot. Dividing the loot gets you the most wealth.

Originally it was a fixed rate 5000 gold to get a +5 hit point increase. I've modified it so that it's 500 gold per character level for a 10% increase, which makes doing it worthwhile.

Since your boarding crew's hit points are based on your own, building your own hit points will give your boarders more hit points as well.

Consider the balance here. You will need a high luck skill to find the rare ingredients. And you'll need to be able to find enough items in chests so that you have a reasonable chance to find these ingredients. You'll also need to be able to make enough money to make dividing the loot worthwhile.

Thanks hook.

You can do it through the menu that shows up when you press the Enter key. THe use potion option only appears if you are actually hurt. The C key will use a potion automatically, but I don't think that button works for antidotes.

Hmmm so no way to assign the number buttons...I never get anything as far as options to use potions when I press enter when I get poisoned by them damned monkey s....

At any rate I thought I would throw this in here for anyone intersested in Naval battles ,,
