New Sloop-Brig ship!

The rear cannon isnt function because one locator missing. But the front one.... WHY the BLAZE are only one first cannon firing??? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

I welcome any fixes you make to the models and fixed models will not need to be made in seperate new ships, I think. Perhaps even improved models can replace the current ones if they only have stuff added, but no changed textures/shapes and stuff like that. So perhaps your frigate indeed can replace the current one. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rolleyes:" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

Im going to send it to Pirate_KK with this new texture. I tried to make the rear windows big enough to show how small the vessel is, and deleted all the unnecessary windows. Remade all the paintwork, to look like a freshly painted British Navy vessel. As you can see, I made the door as tall as it can be in the texture, I think thats enough.

The Brothel-like red lamps are now yellow, and their metalwork is mutch, mutch darker. You can see the last sail's yards, with corrected normals. Now you see the OUTSIDE with the texture, not the inside, as it was on the stock. I send the model, texture, and common.ini, and ship_init.c entries to Pirate KK, and a little historical info as a txt in buildinfo.

I send a corrected normal version of the last sail gm for the two stock Shnyavas, I recommend to overwrite the file with it. Though it has a rope what connects the two yards, and a big flag on it, just like in my Sloop Brig. I think thats just an addition, not a mod-

P.S.:
My corvette still needs a rope between some yards, and a big flag, and a new texture, if I want to publish it as a new ship too, but If you like you can switch the stock corvette gm's to this new one, its only has additional parts. But that work is going to wait until next week. Need to go to the countryside-
So now I only publish

Could you put it on the ftp or filefront? Because I think it will take some time before Pirate_KK gives a new update.
 
melikes! too bad i never take those though. i always sink 'em. i would take them if i would encounter one with a small ship though, which i never do. same goes for brigantines.
 
why not name the ship a naval snow as it is commonly known?

And if your corvette has the normal 38 guns, call it a frigate please; no corvette had more than like 24 guns. In Master and Commander, the Surprise had 28 guns. A 38 gun frigate is actually pretty big. That would just make me incredibly happy if you called your "corvette" a frigate.

The boat looks very pretty though.

Perhaps a little more detail on the stern. perhaps a little bit of paint and decoration. Still looks great though.

And the tiller under the raised cabin is the correct design (though it has no effect on the game really). The tiller would be under the cabin as seen in many paintings of brigs and sloops of war (another word for a corvette) from the stern view.
 
My friend, It IS a brig rigged sloop. The Spanish Vencejo was a sloop, then the ENglish captured it, and named her : Sophie. And made a brig rigging for it. The men called her sometimes brig, sometimes sloop, but the naval papers simply named her Sloop of War, no matter the brig rigging. As it was in the Master & Commander books. (Aubreys first command, the Sophie) that ship had 14 4 pounder guns. The original of this ship was the historical HMS Speedy brig rigged sloop commandered by Lord Cochrane, which also called a Sloop of War, or brig rigged Sloop.

The snow, military Snow is a different vessel.

ANd about the corvette: corvettes was very small patrol, or escort sailships merely only in French navy, until the English take the word too, for small patrolcraft. in the POTC, all Corvette-s are fast frigates. We all now this. But my Corvette is only a more detailed version of the game one. Until all modders going to vote to change the stock ingame name: Corvette to Fast frigate, I am forced to use this name, to let everyone know WHICH ship im talking about in the game.....

ANd the stock Corvette in the game has 32 guns, just like mine. And thats a frigate, yes. In real life.

I was suggesting that the boat be called a snow because of its rigging. That third mast that the gaff sail attaches to is characteristic of a snow and not a brig or sloop (though I suppose that the words brig and sloop were used very liberally in that time period). Yeah, the royal navy had a very general idea of what a sloop was. They basically called any small fighting ship a sloop of war, but if there was any unique ship called a sloop of war it was a what a corvette was: a small ship-rigged vessel with up 20 or so guns. The word sloop has nothing to do with the hull or anything other than it was a small ship. If the sophie was rerigged with a brig rig, then she was a brig. She may have still been called a sloop by the royal navy because she was a small ship. The rigging for the shnyava though is a snow rigging. Anyway, I guess I'm just being picky. No matter the name, I would be very happy to have improved ship models into the game. I think that the brigantine is still my ship of choice though. Hopefully someone will do what you are doing with with the schnyava. I would do it if I knew what I was doing, but I don't.
 
I think our opinions reached a crossroad: I totally do agree with your last post.

At the first place I do respect those, who try to correct incorrect historical references, but I do agree with all other
aspects too.

P.S.:
I like the brigantine also, but yet Im too deep in real life- <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" /> I just hope I can make a new texture, and a last sail flag to my eh.. fastfrigateingamenamecorvette-

But this work is not that long, and hard, If Im going to get some free time, maybe I can do something to the brigantine around august.

Does anyone have Dan's improved Shnyava model by any chance? And perhaps also the corvette mentioned in this thread?
