New model texture

zozogh

Landlubber
I found a new Vrml model but I don't find how to give a texture to this model, I tryed to modify the file with an hexadecimal editor but when I try to look at it with the GM Viewer that crasch.
How to give a texture to a new model? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bookish.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="bookish.gif" />

I use the tool.

How did you make the vrml model ? If you created it with a modeler you should use the same modeler to texture it and export it with textures. (Same applies if you found it somewhere on the internet. Maybe you can find a vrml editor also.)

If you made it "by hand" with a text editor you'd have to also create texture coordinates by hand (if you can do that, you're pretty good with vrml).
The texture can be set in the material node, but that alone is not enough, you also need texture coordinates to determine how the texture is mapped onto the model.

If you have a model with texture coordinates and onnly want to change the name of the texture file, you can do that with a text editor: VRML is plain text (if it's not, unzip it with Winzip first).

I tryed to make a cow for the game but I have problem for texture.
I use a smal polygons modler found on the web : Milkshap wich export VRML97.
For that:

Milkshape has a texture coordinate editor, so you should be able to texture your cow with it. Not sure how it works, though. Maybe ask the question in the milkshape forum.
If nothing helps I can texture it for you in Max, but now that you've come so far it would be preferable if you figured out how to do it by your own means.
Let me know if you need more help.

<img src="http://potczone.neuf.fr/images/lookcow.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

Looks like the texture is tiled, and the tiles are very small. Many modeler programs allow you to set the tile size. I don't know about Milkshape, but I'll look it up as soon as possible.

Edit:
There's a tile texture mapper in Milkshape's Tools menu - however I can't try it because my license has expired. (Now I'm really gonna buy it).
Have you tried making the tile size bigger ?

At least you got the texture applied, you should be proud- you'll figure out the rest, too, and we'll help you if we can.

This is going to be great! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bounce.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":b:" border="0" alt="bounce.gif" />

Thank cat

I should like to know if it is possible to find a DLL for Milkshape to import Vrml. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":huh" border="0" alt="huh.gif" />

I find plugins for export but not import, unless I'm missing something. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />
