New Characters

Hi,
Pieter...Old Salt is included as a character in Bartholomeu's quest if you can add him in with that.

As for the horse I'll do a couple of different coloured ones, I'll ask Sir Christopher Mings to alter the legs & tail a bit with blender...... and add some tack if I can find the carriage model (any idea where I an find it ?).

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

I'll leave it up to Bartolomeu to include him. I really have no time. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

No idea where to find a carriago model, I'm afraid. Somewhere on the internet or make one yourself. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Hi,
My mistake Pieter ,(read it wrong ),thought you said we had a carrige model. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

damski

Ok. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />

Would this carriage be of any use:

<a href="http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=7006a4c8d2d0e67568b812c3fd1c09f9" target="_blank">http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/det...8b812c3fd1c09f9</a>

I'm guessing that since it's a SketchUp model though, it can't be used. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

That depends on what formats SketchUp can export to. Several people managed to convert from SketchUp to X-files used in Virtual Sailor. That suggests it's possible to get the file in 3D Studio MAX in which case you might be able to export to VRML as well, which the Tool can open and convert.

Also, there are these ones avaible:
<a href="http://www.the3dstudio.com/product_details.aspx?id_product=43041" target="_blank">London Carriage/Cab</a>
(with export to: 3ds, .3dm, .asc, .bvh, .c4d, .cob, .cgm, .chm, .csm, .dae,.dwf, .dwg, .dxf, .fbx, .flt, .geo, .iv, .lwo, .max, .obj, .off, .raw, .rh, .skp, .stl, .svs, .u3d, .vrml, .w3d, .wrl .x, .xsi)

<a href="http://www.contentparadise.com/us/user/elven_carriage_e1vv101_3ds_product_25962" target="_blank">Fine carriage</a>
(I know its called "elvencarriage", but think it can be retextured? Export formats: .obj .3ds (dont know what format "Vue" exports to, but that goes as well)
.3ds, .3dm, .asc, .bvh, .c4d, .cob, .cgm, .chm, .csm, .dae

<a href="http://www.the3dstudio.com/product_details.aspx?id_product=23347" target="_blank">Another fine one</a>
Export: .3ds, .3dm, .asc, .bvh, .c4d, .cob, .cgm, .chm, .csm, .dae, .dwf, .dwg, .dxf, .fbx, .flt, .geo, .iv, .lwo, .max, .obj, .off, .raw, .rh, .skp, .stl, .svs, .u3d, .vrml, .w3d, .wrl .x, .xsi

<a href="http://www.the3dstudio.com/product_details.aspx?id_product=31132" target="_blank">A medieval wagon</a>

<a href="http://www.the3dstudio.com/product_details.aspx?id_product=48590" target="_blank">Farmer model</a>
Also, a bunch of other exiting stuff like the harbour crane, the guillotine and the PotC:AWE-like gallows!!
Export formats: 3ds, .3dm, .asc, .bvh, .c4d, .cob, .cgm, .chm, .csm, .dae, .dwf, .dwg, .dxf, .fbx, .flt, .geo, .iv, .lwo, .max, .obj, .off, .raw, .rh, .skp, .stl, .svs, .u3d, .vrml, .w3d, .wrl .x, .xsi

Hi,

They're all pretty good models , unfortunately they also have a price tag on them.
The sketchup model would be OK if anyone could convert it so it can be used.

damski.

What file format would you prefer?

Never used a modelling app in my life. But googled this:

With SketchUp 3 and 4 (free), a plugin for exporting to .obj is available <a href="http://download.sketchup.com/downloads/downloads/plugins/SketchUpOBJExport-1.1.zip" target="_blank">here</a> and <a href="http://download.sketchup.com/downloads/downloads/plugins/Skp2obj_en.MSI" target="_blank">here</a>.
In SketchUp 5 (free), this plugin is included.

With SketchUp 6 Pro you have 8 trial hours for free. Pro can export to: .3ds, .dxf, .obj, .xsi and .vrm

Also, for additional instructions, look <a href="http://forums.devshed.com/game-development-141/converting-sketchup-models-to-3dst-519710.html" target="_blank">here</a>.

So, it can be done.

I did'nt know there was an obj exporter for Sketchup ......I'll have to investigate.

I had sketchup a while ago, did all my design work for my house alterations on it.

It sounds so easy, when you say it damski62 <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I know I should pickup on modelling, just dont know when. I used to design maps for HalfLife1 and HalfLife2, I think there are many similarities between the two workareas - scaling, vertex manipulation, texturing etc. But at the other hand, things are never as easy as I think they are and that is why I respect those who have the guts and the will to keep trying!

I fixed your post, Peter. Nice models indeed. Shame about the price tags. I'd like some gallows. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

What file format would you like them in? I just bought them and DL them, but they are in .lwo (LightWave)
If I contact the creator about having them in another file format, I can have them in a couple of days.

Also, I think I should have picked the lowpoly versions (8000), as these are
Polygons: 229917
Vertices: 167664
Textures: Yes
Materials: No
Animated: No
Jointed: No

But I guess computers nowadays are different than when PotC was launched.

Old Salt be lookin' real good! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />

Let me check something re the carriage, I'll get back to you via PM... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/type_1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":nk" border="0" alt="type_1.gif" /> Keep a weather eye out!

That's quite a lot of polygons. And you BOUGHT them? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />
Anything that 3DS MAX can open would work, such as .3ds, .max or possibly even .obj (would be really easy for use with the Tool).
Does anyone actually have 3DS MAX installed at the moment? I don't right now. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/no.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":no" border="0" alt="no.gif" />

Ye, I did <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:ops" border="0" alt="blush.gif" /> Call it a donation, call me crazy....Anyway, I know I can always use them myself some day..

.obj it is, then!

Wow... thanks. Now I REALLY hope we can figure out how to use them! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

Hi,

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> Peter for the models. I hope we can use them too.

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" /> ,
damski.
