Need help with wrong treasure map

`Psy-Q`-Lator

Landlubber
Hi!
I am trying to find my sister - collected all needed parts of the treasure map whitch says I am supposed to surch south of St. Angeline near the "Black Reef" - Unfortunatly there is no "Black Reef" south of St. A. - only a "Devils Point" and also the whole terrain looks completely different then on my map! I spend days with searching (real time!) but she definetly isn't 'round there! The map is complete and if I try to get another peace from Evil Baron whatever his name is it stays the same way as before....and I really searched my A** off!
Is it a bug or is there maybe a settlement or anything with the same name?
Pls help if you can - I'm really desperat!
Thanx in advance and pls excuse my bad english!

Hello and welcome <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />

I believe the locations are randomized for each game, so no one will be able to tell you exactly where to go. By the way, I do not even have a St Angeline in my game. So your town names must be different, unless its some sort of tiny settlement??

I can mention that some times it will tell you to search in a certain direction and it actually means the nearest coast in that direction. As an example of what I mean. I had a map told me to search East of Campeche. What I had to do was sail up and around to the other side of the land mass to find the reference point. Technically it was still east of Campeche.

Also there is usually (always?) a landmark visual from the ocean, try sailing up and down or all around the coast where you think it may be located. Perhaps you will see the landmark.

I hope this helps. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

one time i got a map telling me to to search north of vera cruz, there was no land marks, there wasn't even near the cost (no water on the map)

i never bothered to look sine i'm not spending my free time wondering around mexico and texas

Gabriel_Stefan I had very much the same map, it ended up being a good distance north of Vera Cruz, the point of land that Vera Cruz would intersect with if I drew a line from it all the way up till I hit land again... Took blimin' ages as there were no landmarks or any water to help with coastline.. needless to say I was most satisfied to find it <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/william.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":will" border="0" alt="william.gif" />

Thanx for the quick response!

First of all: The citys name is St. Augustine and it's way up north!
I know that the city in whitch the single persons for the quests are choosen randomly - it was just my example...
And i really searched quite a lot! Even on the islands a two week sail away!
But nothing....
The problem is: there is a landmark right south of the city where it is suposed to be - it is just the wrong one...

Mistake!

it should be:
I know that the city in whitch the single persons for the quests are located are choosen randomly.... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

The only other thing I can think of is, if you really want to find your sister without having to restart a game. `E-mail` me the save game and I will help you search for it. (yes I have too much free time) Its located in MY games/Sid Meier's Pirates

My email is;

bkmgijoe@aol.com.donotusethispartwhenmailing

What an offer!

Thank you very much GIJoe!
`E-Mail`'s on the way!
But if the reefnames are staying the same in each game - maybe you can help finding the "Black Reef"....
Once more: 1000 thanx
`BooM-Shanti`!

I noticed that sometimes it might say search south east of something, and at least for me, more times than once, south east of XX place was on the other side of the country.

So in other words your not always going to be searching around towns and such.

`Psy-Q`-Lator,

Before I made the offer, I sailed all the way from Havanna to the TOP portion on the map on my game, saw no BLACK REEF. I sailed so far north the game told me I sailed out of the action area and turned me around automatically. I then sailed from the KEYS, north through the gulf of Mexico and still saw no BLACK REEF.

It was at THAT point I offered to help you, if you would send a save game. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

EDIT: I have the save game and am looking now...

Puppy, I hoped I said the exact same thing you did, but perhaps it was not clear. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

OK I found it, do you want me to tell you where or do you want to find it yourself, now knowing that it IS there?

You really did find her!?!

Unbeliveable!
I spend another 3 houres of searching the whole map for the "Black Reef" yesterday but I ended up without success and very disapointed!
So P L E A S E !!!!!! tell me where to look!
A million thanks!

Did you read the posts above? Map locations are randomized so no one here can tell you where to look. I have the same problem as you. My map shows shallow blades and it tells me it's in the vacinity of Cumana (way down south). There's nothing around there. Infact, shallow blades is a rock located just north of the Florida Keys (way up north) so I'm just as screwed as you are.

I think this must be a bug. Some people have also complained about maps without the "X".
