My to-do list for the holiday

well, i did my best to make it as long as possible. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> here's what's left to do:

*convert topsail schooner into bomb ketch:
-upload pictures to forum.

*finally get back to work on PotC:
-create new entry. (all this will likely take at least 4 hours total)
-start all over again later.

*finish crapload of schoolwork those teachers so kindly game me for the holiday.

*stick other half of huge sea puzzle on cardboard. (which is taking at least a week by now)

*clean up ship-component-filled room.

*go to theatre for school twice.

*other:
*continue learning to captain a ship in puzzle pirates:
-save for own ship.
-start pillaging once i can navigate properly so i can get my promotion.
-open a shop.
-start working on swordfighting skills!
*make appointments with friends. (funny that this should appear under 'other')
*possibly following course from Heretik in modelling:
-send PM.
-get programs.
-start making new kinds of ships.

Meet Captain Hendrick Vanderdecken, who occupies the now-flooded abandoned Buccaneer Camp on Hispaniola, supplier of unavailable, quest and cursed ships. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />
I still need to write his dialog, but other than that it seems to work fine. He sells all those CanBuy = false and CanEncounter = false type ships. No more "how do I get the Flying Dutchman?" questions! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/danse1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dance" border="0" alt="danse1.gif" />
I am thinking of making a storm occur after you bought a ship from him or talked to him. Sounds fun to me. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dev.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":d:" border="0" alt="dev.gif" />

that's EXTREMELY wierd. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> his face looks a bit scorched. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> this is going to be so much fun. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> i'll have an impossible fleet of the most powerful ships ever in no time. however, with the future deductions in money, i might have to stick to only one, which is actually better, as it's far more balancing.

He's a cursed pirate: he's got the face of a skeleton. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />
I'm going to see if I can come up with a nice and funny curse thing for him now. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

how about a curse having something to do with 13 years of gametime? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

I already came up with something different. Nothing evil, just funny. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

First of all, Vanderdecken sells the ships for twice their normal price. I used Maximus' <i>tradeHigh</i> code for it that ordinarily enables you to trade with enemy stores and shipyards when your commerce skill is > 5.

Secondly, there's an additional price to be paid. When you look at Vanderdecken's shiplist, he'll steal your personality and you'll take on his: your character name and model are swapped. Next time you look at the shiplist again, the personalities are swapped again and you'll be yourself again. And, of course, after dealing with him, a storm will be raging. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dev.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":d:" border="0" alt="dev.gif" />

i'll buy three ships then. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> i want to look like that! i'd be darned funny to sail a cursed ship with his appearance and name. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" />

You don't need to actually buy a ship to perform the swap. Just looking is enough.
(That was easier to code... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" /> )

This is the dialog I've written. Please give your comments. Some additional jokes would be welcome as well. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec--><b>Vanderdecken:</b> "Good day, <i>Nathaniel Hawk</i>."

<b>Vanderdecken:</b> "I am captain Hendrick Vanderdecken. Perhaps you've heard of me."
<b>Player:</b> "I recall hearing that you captained the Flying Dutchman. But what of Davy Jones then?"
<b>Vanderdecken:</b> "Ah; even an old cursed pirate captain like myself might want to retire at some point."
<b>Player:</b> "So you gave your ship to this Davy Jones character? Just like that?"
<b>Vanderdecken:</b> "I didn't give her away. There is always a price to be paid for a special ship like that. I can offer the same to you."

those last two lines seem a bit repetetive, if it's possible to change that. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> apart from that, i'ts kinda funny indeed. it may not seem like much, but i have a good feeling about that dialogue. sometimes i don't, because i think it just doesn't fit the characters good enough, but this looks good to me.

I like it! But Morgan Terror is right about the last two sentences being repetitive. You could use a random set of sentences for that part.

Those last two sentences are indeed reused; it's the same dialog case. I could do something about it, of course. Not sure if and when I will though. Somebody else is welcome to do it; I can attach the actual dialog file here. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->TALKING AGAIN:

<b>Player</b>: "Sure thing. Now how about those oh-so-special-ships of yours?" ==> open interface, perform character swap<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I remade this little dialogue; I made it lame <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/urgh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":urgh" border="0" alt="urgh.gif" />

TALKING AGAIN:

<b>Vanderdecken</b>: "Ah, you again?"
<b>Player</b>: "No no, I am you and you are me now, remember?"
<b>Vanderdecken</b>: "How could I forget? Well then, do I want to take a look at your ships?"
<b>Player</b>: "Not at all. Just paying my respects to Your Cursedness." ==> exit
<b>Player</b>: "Yes, you would want to indeed."
<b>Vanderdecken</b>: "Just... don't confuse... you too much"
<b>Player</b>: "Let's just get down to business." ==> open interface, perform character swap

Please don't be offended xD

LOL. Just to make things MORE confusing. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dev.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":d:" border="0" alt="dev.gif" />
But then it should also be "Just paying respects to MY Cursedness". <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/razz.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":razz" border="0" alt="razz.gif" />

BTW: That "talking again" dialog shows up if you are NOT Vanderdecken; otherwise you get the "after swap" dialog.

not confuzzleness is pretty funny, actually. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" />

Another holiday, another to-do list. And let's also evaluate my previous one.

New to-do list:
- Finish my <a href="http://www.s31clan.com/privateftps/pietersmods/ships.htm" target="_blank">ships list</a>
- Work on the Periods mod for different soldier skins and ship usage
- More appropriate character model assignments
- Add beggars with a simple virtual sailor's code and remove beggar code from enc_walker dialog

you just reminded me of something i've had in mind:

wouldn't it be funny if you'd have a frying pan as a weapon? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> it would have a high chance of knocking someone out, but will always alert others because of the *BLOING*. weapon mainly preferred by seemingly helpless damsels in distress in houses.

I'd give the shotgun to tavern owners and frying pan to barmaids... they can pitch in if a brawl breaks out. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" />
