My small mod plan - need info.

The first thing I want to do to tweak SMP is to reactivate the missing Tobacco trade, and to possibly add Slaves as another commodity. Two VITAL aspects of the 17th century Caribbean that need to be there, imo. Problem is I can't seem to find the appropriate file to change...anyone try this yet? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/diomed.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dio" border="0" alt="diomed.gif" />

Boy I hope so! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whippa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":whipa" border="0" alt="whippa.gif" />

Commodities seem to be hardcoded. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

Sounds great I cant wait!

If you add slaves you should make it so you can make captured crewman into slaves (increase your infamy)

Or you could raid a native islander village for slaves.

Yes, good ideas galeninjapan. It would also be nice to ransom off captured captains and dignitaries. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

I also miss the individual `sea-to`-fort battle, when you choose to attack from sea, you attacked from sea, not automatically put your crewmembers on land like in this new edition.

I know it's done in realtime, but I want the same interface as with the normal seabattles. That way you could choose between attacking from land or attack from sea.

Another great idea! We could have both. If you attack from the sea the nation will attack back, since land cannons were usually more powerful. Soften them up before you go in on land.

Antoehr idea I had about the slaves.

If you keep raiding native islander villages for slaves they will stop trading with you and eventually they could put a curse on your or something. Just an idea.

Slavin' could be added but gittin' involved in it might oughta have some sorta reputation consequences. Capturin' a slvar ship an' freein' de slaves or lettin' den join yer crew oughta give ye a rep boost. Buyin' an' sellin' dem oughta do sumptin' tew yer rep on de infamy side. But we be dreamin', no body be a wantin' tew touch dis modern PC hot potato! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> It could only happen in a mod! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Good ideas Fred Bob me ol' shipmatey! Well, in those days there was no negative stigma to slaving, so the only reputation adjustment should come from the slaves themselves if you decide to free them rather than sell them.

Aye, point taken, Yankee Pyrate! It be too danged easy tew project 20th or 21st century values upon past history. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

De tobacco thang be mystifyin' tew ol' Fred Bob... what about rum? Dat be gone too? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

True, but if you always took seaman as slaves (aka europeans) then your infamy would increase and you would be known for it.

Were captured sailors or other europeans typically sold into slavery or only pressed into service?

Maybe someone can figure out how to add other bits of geography and then you could really dabble in the slave market by attacking native villages as well as trading with the stronger tribes or clans.

If they were captured by pirates? Depends. If they were lucky, they were seated in the longboat and bid to go to the devil, if they were less fortunate, they were killed on the spot and if they were unlucky indeed, chance was they were sold into slavery.
Only thing I wonder if practices differed between the bucaneer freebooters -they were more mercenaries than pirates, although that, of course, depends on the point of view - of the 17th century and the real pirates, like Blackbeard and Kidd, of the early 18th century.

Maybe adding some more notorious pirates would be nice. The Pirates from the classic game. That would be a good idea I think. What do you mean guys? Is this possible?
