Thanks for the news DonkeyPirate! I was just looking a month or so ago to see if I could find any news on Monkey Island 5, all I found was a bunch of dead links and old rumors. I have to say, that I'm really excited about MI5 and MI1 Special Edition.
Big MI fan here. Stopped counting how often I played through part 1 to 4.
Finally new content and challanges await.

The special edition looks terrible, honestly. The rendered characters look pretty cheap and Guybrush looks like his hair could cut a mountain in half. Also, there's a clear disparity between Guybrush/Elaine and everyone else. For Guybrush and Elaine they seem to have gone with a bizarre anime-inspired route with giant eyes and over-cartoony features, while with the rest of the characters they seem to have just gone over the original portraits and made them look more like paintings than pixel art.

The Tales of MI has potential only because Ron Gilbert was brought in (and Michael Land to do the music).

Also, just to be clear, Tales of Monkey Island is <b>not</b> Monkey Island 5 and has been described by Telltale as taking place sometime between 4 and 5. This is because Lucasarts wants to retain the rights to make an 'official' sequel, probably based on how well the special edition and the tales series does. I think the special edition will tank because it looks poor, so it will be up to whether or not Tales captures the spirit of the original.
