Mixed story lines

I'm currenty following the standard story line. I previously mentioned your ship automatically changes to the Wicked Wench after a couple of visits to Port Royal <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> but here's another...When I go to the Barbados mines to find the tablets/Danielle, who do I find hanging out on the beach? none other than Hector.

Also in Sao Jorge, when you speak to the tavern keeper one of the dialog choices is to ask about Beckett..

I think I know why that is. Originally the Jack Sparrow storyline was made as an addition to the original game's main quest. That was before we had the Selectable Storylines mod. There's still traces of that around that need to be removed again. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

I found another problem with the standard story line. When I travel to Silehard's bedroom With Danielle, he is not there. It was great for Danielle and I, but not so great for finishing the quest <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Haha! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/24.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rofl" border="0" alt="24.gif" />
Still needs to be looked at though. Has anybody been able to complete the main quest in any recent game version? Eg. Build 14 Alpha 8 or later?

I've gotten as far as the prison to bring a prisoner back to Silehard. The sound is totally messed up in the prison for some reason, even the greetings do not play, only the ambient sound, and the sound can't be reset. The Greenford Commandant_dialog.c has a major error in the First Time section where a bunch of characters on one line got deleted. I got past that by copying that line from an earlier version of the code.

I get outside, and I'm supposed to meet the researcher. First time the guys simply attacked someone and died before I could finish the dialog with the girl, then you can't talk to the researcher. Second time I clicked through the dialog as fast as I could and got the dialogs and ended up on the beach with Danielle and company, including Hector. Third time was same as the first.

And what the hell happened to my ship? I had a perfectly good schooner, fast and maneuverable, 12 pounder guns, over 1000 cargo, 119 crew. I took on frigates and small warships with that thing and won. Biggest opponent was 56 guns, I think. Suddenly I have the Wicked Wench in place of it with not enough crew. My first indication was when I saw it in the harbor. The sale price for the Wench was 110K (which included my cargo), barely enough to buy another schooner even if one were available, and ones that good aren't available. At least give me the option to take the ship so I can make arrangements to keep the old one if I wish... or at least save the game. My last save was before I even started the main quest. I'd have been even more pissed if it had replaced a much larger ship, or something very very special. And not a word of warning that it was going to happen. Sheesh.

Even Hook is getting it, poor bugger <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> Pieter, I have that sinking feeling that the game's caught a sickness called Bugitis <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/razz.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":razz" border="0" alt="razz.gif" /> Last time I completed the quest was way back playing 14/6! Mind you it did have problems too as you know, but things have gotten worse since! At the moment I'm trying to play the first game and ran into big problems on Eulathera, but it can be read in another post. I'll continue and hopefully I'll have something good. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Heh! Yeah. This is actually the farthest I've gotten in the main quest. Last time I played it was Build 13-9 or earlier, where the researcher apparently messed up the same way because I don't remember anything about the guys trying to burn him at the stake. I did go looking around the lighthouse at the time but found nothing, and never got teleported there to meet Danielle. I never tried again until today. I don't remember the prison at all, but I wouldn't have noticed the sounds at the time like I do now since I'm working on them.

I didn't care. Mostly I played pirate quests, and occasionally hauled some cargo to see new sights. I did the occasional side quest, which still worked in those days, like the Blaque family saga. Eventually I'd like to actually finish the main quest.

Edit: Oh yeah, forgot to mention about my schooner. I did NOT get reimbursed for it. Not a single piece of eight.

We really need to look into the original main quest, eliminate the old Jack Sparrow influences and see if we can get it properly working again.
The problem is our quest writers have been working on their own quests, so the original main quest fell a bit behind.
The Bartolomeu one does seem to work fairly well. I'll see what happens if I compare the files with, say, the B14A6 ones. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

I just got to Rhiems' house in the jungle. First time through I didn't kill the characters following us and when I got to the house, nothing happened and I was locked facing forward and couldn't move. Second time I killed the bad guys and it worked... although there were a couple of plays in between where I got killed by random ruffians in the jungle.

I saved the game just before going to the area with the house so I could test it a bit. Still not sure what all is happening there.

While I'm standing there about to enter that area of the jungle, I check my quest log. The last entry is about going with Danielle to Bonaire. After the house is complete, all the rest of the entries are there, including instructions on how to get to the house. Good thing I remembered, huh?

Next thing I notice is that I'm suddenly level 30 after the fun in the house. I was about halfway through 19 when I walked in the door. I guess getting stabbed by a pretty girl is worth a hell of a lot of experience. I don't remember any log messages about gaining 1.5 million experience points. If that's always been part of the game we would have gotten ability points and skill points. I got neither. All that level 30 is going to do for me is generate some really nasty enemies.

I have just done a WinMerge compare on the standard storyline and regular dialog files with the Alpha 7 ones, before we added the Jack Sparrow modifications. In so doing, I have now reset pretty much all Jack Sparrow influences, so hopefully on the next patch, you won't run into Barbossa anymore or get the Wicked Wench or anything else. I might've made some mistakes though, but I'm hoping it'll work better than it did. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

I've done some further study on that "level 19 and suddenly level 30" thing.

It turns out that I was awarded 11 ability points... randomly, which means "in the worst possible places" and it'll be level 31 before I get another.

I got 1 skill point in each skill plus 23%. Two of my skills suddenly had the bonus attribute and the green checks.

Other runs produced some different results, but I haven't analyzed them yet. For example, I had 135% to leadership which gave me a full skill point the first time I did anything to get leadership skill.

I'm not sure the whole thing is intentional. If it is, it's done poorly. It appears that my character has gone through a process of getting some random attributes added as if it were a fantom character that can get abilities boosted behind the scenes according to some schedule.

One thing I'm not certain of is the character's "locdate" attribute which changed from 1694 to 1840. The date in the game is still 1690.

Anyone have any idea what's going on?

Hook

It's not actually the year. I think. But it does control characters who aren't the main character getting stat boosts when talking to the main character. And that's what happened. During the dialog, Danielle was set to main character and my character was updated as if it were a fantom. Not supposed to happen.

Fix is posted in the modder section for inclusion in next update.
