`Mail-Runner`

skipper

Landlubber
what do you think

i play swashbukkler and fencing skill
all games before i played with brig of war
and i liked it
but on swashbukkler i cant get all these ppl
happy you need on brigg of war
its about 150 to load all your cannons fast
and to sail the highest speed on map....
and speed is just medium

so i decided to use `mail-runner`
its reallllyyyyy fast on map so fast that i cant
control it sometimes
but i have some probs with the lesser crew
what you mean about ???

I only have a few suggestions;

1. Make sure your mail runner has Triple hammocks for maximum crew.

2. Disable the enemy with Chain Shot, then dance/dart around him hitting him with Grape Shot until you outnumber them.

3. I would suggest you try a Royal Sloop, with Triple Hammocks, 187 crew and very agile/nimble.

4. Regardless of which ship you use, attack every enemy on site. This is a good way to keep your crew busy and it will "help" to keep them happy. Always ensure money coming in, attack, attack, attack. Eventually you will reach a point where the amount of gold you have will make it easier to keep your crew happier.

Good luck! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

thx joe (harr)

i tried the royal sloop but i have to say its much slower then
the mail runner really slower
your mail runner can make over 19 knots easy and you accelerate
much faster than the sloop
you also need only 40 men to get highest speed and fast canon loading
with royal sloop you need 80 for that
and i dont want to plunder every ship i only wanna do me mission
to find me family
and kill this mendoza harrr

and if you plunder all you see at swashbukkler you will die early
because you cant fencing without been hit once or twice at this lvl
so i try to minimize this
i make more money if i only catch the pirates the treasurefleet
and the badman who wait in towns
also find the pirates treasure
the baron mendoza and raymondo also have over 3000 gold so with
60 men they are always happy

I have thought about trying a mail runner as my flagship. I used to go with the Brigantin, Brig, then Brig of War as my main ship, but I tried using a sloop and loved it. Now I grab a Sloop, Sloop of War, then Royal Sloop. But I have also had War Canoes in my fleet and fully tricked out they can be great. Bad for hauling anything, but for never getting hit by cannon they are wonderful.

I have yet to grab a Pinnace (which is basically a larger version of the War Canoe) or a Mail Runner. Mostly because when I am assigned a mission to escort a Mail Runner I can't bring myself to attack it. Call me `dooty-bound` if you must, but there it is.

I think I would like it except for the small carrying capacity. I love swag and I tend to keep everything I capture, even beat up galleons barely afloat. Maybe if 99% damaged ships didn't still carry their full cargo I wouldn't, but when I grab a galleon loaded with goodies and can sink it and my loot, or keep it and lug it back to port with a full belly I can't help myself. How do you handle the low carrying capacity of the Mail Runner as a flag ship? Keeping a large fleet defeats the speed of the Mail Runner and collecting a bunch of mail runners every expedition seems to be a chore.

Skipper - If you do not want to play a pirate, and actually attack ships, then you may have to just settle for a mutinous crew.

I fear Pirates is lacking a great deal in free form play, essentially you are not really open to simply be a trader or cruise around just looking at things. The problem is, the crew are hard coded, (is that even a term), to always want more. It seems that after a certain amount of gold your crew is easier to control, it’s just getting to that amount that can be difficult, especially at Swashbuckler level.

At any rate, what you describe above is a vicious circle, you say you like the mail runner because it is fast, but you do not like the amount of crew it carries. However, if you get a larger ship, you cannot keep the crew happy. I think this might be a case of having to sacrifice one thing for the other.

Good luck.

I take the opposite approach. I take Henry's ship asap and use a couple of sloops to haul the food I need to feed the crew. There's just something about ripping the sails out of a galleon with one broadside...

I like Henry's ship for the same reason. I love seeing a wall of metal flying across the screen when my cannons fire. Arrrrrhhh!!

It's almost a little too easy though. I might switch back to a smaller ship soon.

Speaking of which... I like the way you can select different flagships in this game. It's not like `mission-based` simulators or other games that force you to use `low-level` hardware at first, and there is a rigid progression of better ship/aircraft/spaceship types as you progress deeper into the game. Except for the SOL and Henry's LF that take time to track down, you can basically grab whatever you're good enough to grab, fairly early in the game. And if you don't like it, just switch to a different ship. I like that.

Aye mate, like that feature as well, stick te sail'n me Royal sloop most O de time, buts its nice te 'ave a choice when ye feel de need <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

In my armada I keep a Sloop for speed in any wind conditions, a completely armed frigate for battle with most ships, and a well armed brig for fighting smaller ships. I only use the sloop while sailing though. Doesn't do to well in battle.

I still like my fully upgraded Brig 'O War. Fairly fast, good turning circle, and has a good punch at 32 cannons/300 men max. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />

I just started a new one in rogue and got Henry, Blackbeard and a treasure galleon in my first 4 ships. Think I can be named King instead of govenor? WHAT A FLEET

I can understand that. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

However, I consider every hit on the enemy ship less gold in my pocket when it is repaired/`re-used` by me. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

harr harr nice you are interrest in this thread

i give you the best way to do it with the pinnance class

you start with a sloop beeing 18 yeahrs old at english or dutch
best way near st.kittis and it have to be war between dutch and england
first you stay at your sloop you have
dont attack any ship around the harbors or you cant sail in any more harr
you have to sail down to monserrat or a bit more at south and do your
pirate things there .....
capture all ships you can see from dutch about 3 to 5 ships then sail
to next english harbor and get your promotion
now do the same thing with the english ships and get at the dutch promo
now sail to the spanish harbor and get your promo there
at now you can dance with some nice daughters
you have to dance really hard because you must have the gifts she only
give to you if you can kiss her harr harr
so its time to get the perfect balanced swords and the silk fencingshirt
because now you want the mail runner or the pinnance but the best is
the canuoe with hammoks there are 80 mens crew maximum and thats
the maximum you ever need
then from now your `19-20` yeahrs old still at perfect health
and with your pinnance never get into seafight if you attack always
straight to his ship sail around his fire and only shoot once
bevore you catch him now you have to fence
with your intems you are the fastest hiter ever you have to pratice
but it should be no problem to kill every enemy

now its time for your family sail to the next monktown and get there
the information you need only get your infos from there or you
pay or dance for nothing grrrrrrr
so every time you bet raymondo sail to next monkstation and get
the infos
now you will see the options of pinnance class you will have your whole
family in less than 2 yeahrs
so you are 22 yeahrs and still at perfect health perhaps you sunk to
nearly perfect health its no prob the carreer is just beginning now
this missions gave you more money you ever can get from ships or
treasures because every time he have over 3k and mendoza over 5k
and you will meet him every 2 weeks lol
hes really stressed harr harr have fun and try it

Q: What is monktown and monkstation and what info do they give?

I get way more than 3k or 5k from attacking ships, and most times just sailing with the main shipping lines around Puerto Bello and Nombre Dios I will grab 3 to 6 ships one right after the other, I get the gold they have on board plus I get to sail them and thier cargo.. This really adds up after a few hauls.

Also the top 10 Pirates, especially the #1 can have 100K and you also get 50K per lost city...

But, hey, thats the beautty of SMP, it allows you to play the game that best fits your style.. for the most part.. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> (I still say pure trader is not a good option based on the game mechanics)

im not trading man in never trade

im on the way with only 1 mail runner and only do the missions
why d you think im trading ????
the raymondo and mendoza gives you enought money to keep
your crew happy if you on the way with mail runner because you never
need more then a week to find him your that fast

and i mean monkville where the monks live ......
they always give you the information where raymondo is .....
and always buy the treasure map you can dig for it on the way to raymondo

i only have 66 crew and over 70000 gold on board so if i need time
they always happy
sometimes over 4 yeahrs if you can handle fencing....

i saw also if you need new crew they get fast unhappy if they are new
if always have your starting crew they will stay longer happy .....

ps: im playing on swashbukkler so less crew is easy to handle
and fencing still easy if you have the the intems for it harr harr

I only use one Royal Sloop until now. I sell all what I got except food.
I only keep food in my flagship coz I don't use cannon basically.

I do not think you are trading, that’s why it’s in ( ) it’s just a statement not necessarily directed at you. *I* sometimes like to simply trade and it not possible to have a peaceful career and still garner points.

What version of the game do you have? You seem to have stuff in your game that I do not. I have the US/English version and in my game the Priests are located in a Jesuit Mission. And they never give me any information about Raymondo, nor do they give/offer to sale me any maps.

I think we are just playing diff versions. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> At any rate, I will cease posting here as it is obvious different things apply depending on what version of the game that you have and I do to want to post `mis-leading` info. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

hi gj

yeah i have the german version and at me them are not priests
them are monks
and if you are searching raymando if you are fast everytime
they give you the information about where you can find raymando
if you are to late or not that loved at a nation
they give other missions like immigrantes bring to a town
or save the priest who speak with a govener for you so you can
in towns where you had to sneak in .....
