Lost Aztec City Map - need help, no coast

I'm a new poster, but I've been lurking for a while. Can someone give me some help with finding this lost city?
I've spent a lot of time running up and down central america looking for this city and not getting anywhere.
If you'd like to take a look at my saved game, let me know and I'll email it to you.

Thanks in advance!

All I could think of in a situation like that is to save the game, grab a lot of food, get ashore near vera cruz and, most importantly, use the spyglass. If you spend a year or so finding the city, you can always load the game and go straight to it. =)

That's what I do. Save, find it, then reload.

*sigh* It's such a pain in the ass. At least I only had to look `north-east` of Gibralter, not all the way up the western border of the map. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />

Climb to the top of the highest mountain in the area, then press '9' on the keypad, and move the mouse around you to "look" in the direction.

Takes some getting used to, but it sure helps to locate things for me now I've got it under control. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->how can you use a spyglass in the land?<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
this is what i read on another forum:
"<i>putting it down just below the halfway point on the screen you can see under trees and alot further around you</i>"

can someone explain this a little better? what is this under trees stuff?

Mack - What is meant by that is, the tree branches will not obstruct your view as much and you can see a little further without having to look through them. If you keep the glass about level with your crew you can see under the tree branches.

kavakava - I have your savegame and might be able to look in a few moments... however I have a medical appt in the morning and I may just go to sleep.. At any rate, the longest I have taken to find a spot on a map once I have started looking is about 30 minutes.. So you should have it back no later than 7 Jan --pm.

thesdale - Or clicking the right mouse button.. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Kavaka, I found the lost city north of Vera Cruz, took me about 15 minutes.. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I will be `e-mailing` it to you shortly.

EDIT: I have posted in the map FOUND thread also... If I can keep that thread JUST for maps that people need help with.. will make life easier, MAYBE there will not be 50 diff threads about lost maps. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I can make a sticky thread fer ye fer lost maps so yer not jump'n around GIJoe <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

I am starting to think, I better stop, this could become a full time job and I would much rather play the game, <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> I now have 4 waiting to be checked and it is becoming a chore. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

I mean, if *I* can find the locations then surely anyone can.. It just takes patience and persistance. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Joe, thanks for your help. Found it! I think you've proved that the maps may be obscure, but that they aren't buggy.

You are welcome.

I think most people expect the map to take you by the hand and walk you to the location. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> But, when it says search South of XXX it could mean walk out the city and its there, or you may have to walk for days or months in a sounthernly direction to find it. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

It just adds to the game in my mind that you gotta work at finding some of them location.. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I actually LIKE the obscure maps. It's a hellova lot more realistic.

I mean, come on. It's not like pirates left big flashing neon lights embeded in the rocks with signposts all the way to their cave now, did they? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pirate2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p:" border="0" alt="pirate2.gif" />

Heh RIGHT... I often wonder when I find a spot where there is buried treasure, hmmmm, why did they mark it with all these hanging skulls and stuff, it's OBVIOUS something is buried here! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

I like the challenge. It might take some time, but you'll find it. Orienteering is a skill - good thing there's a compass! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />
