Location & island remodeling campaign

Any news 'bout the Russian modders? I wasn#t able to contact my cyryllic reading fellow-student, sadly.
But we all could start work on the Cartagena Model so far? Or do we first need to know how to add the Island to be able to add the walkways and sceneries according to it?

I think the first thing you'd need to do is become familiar with the way locations work in the game. Try and modify some existing ones if you can. Try and see what the Tool is capable of and what it can't do. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

well i think so - but i hope Thomas knows more 'bout that ^^
But in case it's no deal to make the city first (walkable, spereation in sectors etcetc) i'd say to do that first and meanwhile try contact the russian guys on our island prob.

First doing the easy things. Just for not loosing to mutch time on things someone here is already capable of!
Meanwhile someone could try get a idea of how to add new islands, maybe?

btw i know they added Spanish Main. But who did add Cuba and Hispaniola??
Both islands have been on a Addon of this Page (long time ago) - if not the russians there must have been one who was able to make them?

The worldmap currently being used in Build 13 and Build 14 Alpha was made by the Russians. This is the mod that added such islands as Cuba, Hispaniola, Antigua, Saint Martin, etc. to the game.

To contact the Russians, perhaps you can post on their forum? We would really need to get through to them. As far as our own community is concerned, the following people have some knowledge of modeling:
- Thomas the Terror used the Tool for modifying existing cities
- CouchcaptainCharles started the whole location remodeling campaign and knows a lot about it and using the Tool, but not about using any real 3D modeling programs
- Kazeite knows a lot about 3D modeling for the game, but only as far as it's related to ships. Still many of the conversion processes are bound to be the same

So I recommend you at least try to contact Kazeite and see if he knows anything that might help.

BTW: Does anyone still have Maya 5 + the required plugin? I once found the following download links for them:
<a href="http://1.filesopc.z8.ru/Progs/May5.0.zip" target="_blank">http://1.filesopc.z8.ru/Progs/May5.0.zip</a>
<a href="http://1.filesopc.z8.ru/Progs/plagin5.0.zip" target="_blank">http://1.filesopc.z8.ru/Progs/plagin5.0.zip</a>
But this doesn't seem to work anymore. Would be useful to have these programs. This is what the Russians use for their PotC and AoP (re)modeling and makes for much better conversions. Provided that you have the programs and know how to work with them.

I don't know much about the walkfiles, only a bit about how the tool works, the biggest work of my towns, consist of new skins.

Any news about Capitan Caceres ? This town is really good <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Thankfully we now have the required modding tools and damski62 and ZarethPL have done a good job of figuring out how to use them.
They have now finally managed to get new ships and characters (no animation yet) into the game properly and damski62 is working on locations now.
You might want to send him a PM. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />
Nice to see you posting again! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

Indeed, nice to see Captan Caceres. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />

I would like to have this town in my build. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

As usual you guys make one feel welcome.

I think we can add my town to the game if we segment it in neighborhoods as in my picture, the hard part is going to be adding the houses, but after creating like 4-5 generic models we can start randomizing the colors. What do you think?

Sounds good. The main challenge would be getting it from model-stage workable ingame.
With a bit of luck we can now figure that part out though. Perhaps Damski62 can help?
What I would recommend is first trying to just make a plan with a couple of boxes and put that ingame to try and see if you can add a location at all.
Once the process works, you would be able to model anything you'd like. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Indeed. If I am not wrong the game uses collision models sepparate from the model itself, so the boxmodelling will be quite useful in determing that or even when the final model is to be added.

Yep. If you send a PM to Damski62, the two of you should be able to figure things out.

Hi,

The best thing to do is have a look at help files, open the locations one in Maya and have a study of it .Then we can both see what's what and take it from there.

damski.

Maya 5.0 is on the ftp, with all the patches, we recommend downloading them, since that is the program which is used by the game developers to make POTC models. They even got some tools to go with it.

Hi guys
Cpt. Caceres hauled me back on board, telling me there is some progress
going on with adding whole Towns, Locations and shipmodels? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="bow.gif" />
So if u really manage to add his Cartagena scene i can supply some more cities.
As i already showed some ages ago i'm currently working on a models of :

- San Juan on Puerto Rico with all it's fortifications and churches (date 1780)
- St. Augustine with Fort Marion and Fort Mantanzas in Florida (date uncertain 17th/18th cent.)
- Christiansted with Fort Christiansvaern on St. Croix (early to mid 18th century)
(the dates refere to the actual Plan material i got so far)

Further models Caceres and i are planing to do, would be:

Porto Bello
San Juan de Ula
Port Royal
Puerto Cabello
Chagres
Havanna
Santiago de Cuba

tho this depends on Planmaterial we will be able to collect.
Additionaly i could help make new ship & weapon models, i got a nice collection of planmaterial.
All i need is information on Model and texture file-format.

best regards

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> & welcome,

The models are in gm. format ingame. The textures are tga.TX.
gm.viewer exports for editing in obj. format
You'll need to have a look at the help file examples to find out how things are set for exporting.
All the models are made in Maya 5.0 & we have the patch for that now.

damski.

Please remind me wich date are we recreating in the game? knowing the exact year would be helpful for me, I remember the original game was set in 1630.
