Location & island remodeling campaign

Hi, this is my Cartagena layout, hopefully someday we will be able to add the spanish main as the russian team did.

Wonderful ! ! ! Absolutly w-o-n-d-e-r-f-u-l ! That's really great work, please continue, both of you!
A major frustration for a Seadogs fan was how ugly the PotC forts were...

If you succeed, PotC will become more than 'just a game'. You're adding a very interesting aspect.

three things:

will you be able to destroy the fort? (being able to hit the cannons from the sea)

will the fort actually fit in the place it's supposed to go?

and will you be able to actually see everything? cos otherwise all that hard work might be partially for nothing. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

R: By modifying the locators it is possible, so... help on locators anyone? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

R: The idea is to make the island fit the new city and fort, current POTC bays are too narrow and the islands too mountainous, a little flatting in 3D max will be done.

R: I managed to put a fort ingame, the only problem was the lighting, it looked pale, but know that we have the tutorials on that it wont be a problem.

Still neither Ludwig nor I are experts, we need all the help we can get and work as a team, otherwise we wont be able to do a single house.

ok. the island idea sounds good. i always thought they where way too high. but this generates another problem: the ships are way too big in comparison to the islands when they're flattened out.

another something that has just come to mind: there is a rope bridge on falaise de fleur that you can sail underneath, but it's highly incomplete. anyone ever noticed this?

Really really nice forts, I think flattening of the islands will make the ships look too big, but you can always try, and look at the result.

Ludwig, welcome aboard, you can send the render, but it will not be ready within 2 weeks, because I school has just started, and I am really busy with it, I only have some time in the weekends, and after 8 o' clock.

Are the models only models for the islands, are there no models we can use to model cities, with the tool?

You can always select part of the island and squash that part alone, leaving some selected mountains and hills intact. Well, it's all the matter of experiment <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I like the idea of just flattening some part of the island.

For the hanging bridge, I have seen it, I think is also accesible if you go into the island´s jungle but I am not sure on that.

creating the offshore model of a town is relatively easy compared to creating the walkable town itself, the first one is simpler and can be filled with boxmodels of houses and churches already ingame following the layout of the real city, but for the second model some landmark buildings must be made from scratch, the houses can be randomized to some extent.

SOME STUFF I FORGOT, but important enough to be added as a different post:

For Thomas: we have the same obligations as you, so no problem.

Also, we need to start a workplan defining a main goal wich I suggest should be the creation of a new town from scratch (I know we can do it or at least die or injure ourselves in the process).

To achieve this new town we must start from the easier outside part and then move to the more complex inside walkable model of the town. This is my suggestion.

1. Modify the Puerto Rico model by merging our bay of san juan realistic model with the existing island, this can be done by modification of the original model, I volunteer for this dirty work.

2. Texture the "new" bay using the game´s textures. We need an experienced texturer for that.

2. Add a simplified version of El Morro castle using it´s late 17th century appearence (a job for Ludwig)

3. Modify the gun locators to fit the castle crennels. Hard job, need someone who knows how to do it.

4. Arrange some houses and churches following the layout of 17th century San Juan (job for Ludwig or/and me)

5. Test it to see if it does not suck.

I think you could really use the help of some of the Russian modders. I don't know how to contact them though. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />
I know they have a lot more knowledge about modifying models: They made the new island map and several new boarding locations, including some new captain's cabins and boarding decks.

the bridge on FDF is not accessable. you're confusing it with that of isla muelle. i think the bridge is part of the old colony on the other island, which was destroyed 20 years ago. don't remember by what though, but one of the citizens told me. could be interesting if you could actually visit it.

Somebody once worked on making the other side of the island visitable. Never finished though. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

I've heard from Caceres already bout those Russian modders.
Anyone knows a Hp link or at least a page where i can check and download their mods?
I know someone who can read cyrillic; maybe we can get some trace on how they did their modifications this way.

This is what I can find:
<a href="http://www.seaward.ru/" target="_blank">http://www.seaward.ru/</a>
<a href="http://www.seaward.belweb.by/forum/index.php?act=idx" target="_blank">http://www.seaward.belweb.by/forum/index.php?act=idx</a>

Yeah the hanging bridge is from Isla Muelle, hehe my mistake.

There must be a way of cooperating with the russian team, I can lend them my models in exchange for their help in adding new locations. As far as I know no one has added realistic cities to the game, so they may be interested.

They SHOULD be interested if they know what's good for them. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

oooh, do i hear something interesting? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> me and my crew are willing to join you for reduced price!

Thx for the links Pieter ^^
i hope i will see my cyrillic-reading friend soon.

and mate (caceres) i'm not to sure on using San juan for the tests!
San Juan would mean to do a complete new model; still the only thing i got ready of that part is a larger Citywall section and the Morro, as u know.

I guess it would be more productive to use your already finished Cartagena Scene for those tests. To find out if it's really possible to add such a huge city.
I guess it would be no big deal to move it from an atm in PotC existing Island to a new location later on. (what do u say Thomas?)
Or you could add Cartagena as a seperate Island already in a correct location?

Nothing against the idea of doing San Juan, and adding Spanish main for Cartagena later; but i'm afraid the guys here would get bored waiting 2months (or even more) for a finished San Juan Model?

Everyone get something to do <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> and we would be able to see fast results!

I have no idea how we add a new island to the worldmap, I say, COME ON CARTAGENA, but on the worldmap, it would only appear as a city, you don't have an island, OR you should also customize the path of the worldmap model so, that matches too.

Well, We could start by asking the russian team how to add new islands and such things, since my cartagena scene already has the surrounding terrain modelled, so it would be like a completely new island but bigger, just like the shore models in voyage century online.
