I got this for xmas, was sooooo happy, that lasted nearly for the whole 15 minutes before it crashed, reloaded, crashed again, etc etc etc

It sickens me that they can put out a game, sell it for `90-100` dollars without properly testing it first.

I am totally disgusted at atari and will never buy another game or product made or sold by them.

I'll also let as many people as I can of my experience so people get to know how atari manage quality control.

plz hlp!

I love the original game and i just got the new version, all excited but my comp. is having problems with the binkw32.dll file can anyone please help me, im going crazy! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

My problems with this game

Gigabyte `GA-7N400` Pro2 (Rev 2.0) motherboard, Gigabyte Nvidea FX5700 256M , Athlon 2800, 1GB dual ch ram and Creative soundblaster 4.1. (XP disappeared up it's own ar*e last week taking all my data in the raid disks with it; so i'm back to good old ME o/s).
I have a Plexwriter and yamaha r/w cd drives, which are supposedly the best cd readers on the market (or were a couple of years ago).
The first disks I bought could not be read by the Yamaha at all and the plexwriter copied the data with loads of bugs - Causing XP to go into meltdown...I was not happy.
So there are some dodgy copies out there, (I got it from a major game chain - not the market).
I took the game back to the shop and the replacement I got appeared to work fine.
But after about `15-20` mins the graphics get choppy and the land detail on the map in the inventory loses land detail and becomes a white screen with the town details overlaid on it.
Another bug i had was I couldnt get out of blackbeards harbour - i just went round and round without touching any the keys. like I was glued to the dock.
I was thinking it may be bad disk copies and not programming errors - but it seems to work fine on another older machine I have here.
This would be a great online game though!
My copy worked fine and I was able to play for hours at a time with no crashes. I picked up a pistol - no problem. I picked up 2 pistols, now whenever I enter sword combat, about 80% of the time it'll show the animation of my enemy firing, but then right after I pull my two pistols out and start to fire my machine reboots or hard crashes. I have reproduced this error on two completely different computers, both P4s with ATI Radeon card (2.8e w/9800 pro and 2.4a w/9600se, both with 1GB pc3200 ddr). I have tried a plethora of video and sound card drivers for both computers and still experience the same error. I can play forever until I get into a duel so I know something is up. Am I just going to have to wait for a patch? I also have an Athlon `XP-M` 2600 OC'ed to 2.2Ghz with a GeForce 5700 Ultra. Going to install on that computer and see if I have the same problem. I'll keep you guys posted. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bookish.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="bookish.gif" />

What is with people sticking up for Fixaris? Are you getting paid to come up with excuses for them? The game needs patched.....support an update!

any idea when these << publishers and developers >> are going to << make >> an update?

any timing?

Thar really be no reason tew call de Developers names or flame bait. Fer one, de games has only been out 6 or 8 weeks. Two, no doubt in Fred Bob's mind dat an update already be in de werks. Third, ye could help by posting clear, factual, uncomplicated descriptions o' what problems ye be experiencin'. Either someone her might hep ye or de Developers might take notice an' address de issue. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

i posted my problems on another thread, but basically, i'm having massive crash problems... and i've tinkered with all of the video settings and basically NO JOY...

sigh... wish i could just sit down and enjoy this great game without any of these frustrating technical problems...

<!--`QuoteBegin-Anonymous`+--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Anonymous)</div><div class='quotemain'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Regarding the black screen, I personally found that disabling Plug and Play in System Services (MSCONFIG) seems to work, though at the terrible disadvantage of losing sound. Apparently, a conflict between my sound device and the game (though I could've sworn it wasn't plug and play.) Hopefully it'll be remedied with the first patch. Looks like a lot of bugs to work out.
I'm having this exact same problem. My sound card, according to dxdiag is "SoundMAX Digital Audio" and the manufacturer is, and I quote, "1". Don't quite know where to go to update the drivers here, if that would even help. I've tried everything else to get this to work, I defragged, I reinstalled (a LOT), on both my C drive and my external (the game works on the external with plug and play disabled...it worked ONCE on my C drive, and only once, i didnt disable anything, it had sound and everything...I cannot recreate this for the life of me, I'm at the end of my rope there), I disabled all the programs, the only way to reliably fix the black screen error for me is to disable plug and play, which disables all the sounds on my computer. I don't even know what plug and play is, much less why it would do this. Any ideas? Hopefully this is at least taken into account for the patch, as I don't seem to be the only one having this problem. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

I don't mean to complain but this is really giving me a headache, I've been tinkering with this on and off for weeks with no results. If it weren't for the above poster (thank you very much by the way...how'd you figure out it was plug and play?) I wouldn't have any leads at all. This is the only game that does this, it's most peculiar.

Dears Biafrus <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />

I`ve got a "SoundMAX Digital Audio" either and the manufacturer is <b>Realtek</b>. Go to their Site to update your drivers. Have you changed anything since pirates runs last time? Which drivers to you have? The latest or Omegadrivers? Does this error only accure if you try to play pirates or does other things also make trouble on your PC?

What does "Dxdiag" say about your directx?
Ever tried some cleaning tools like "tune up" to solve some registry or other possible problems on your machine?

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> Hafen

Nothing's changed since the one time I got it to run (which is funny, since I didn't change very much to get it to run...the only thing i can think of is that I'd just done a fresh defrag of the hard drive, but doing it again hasn't produced the same results). I literally quit the game, went to do something else, came back and started up again and it hit the black screen again. This is the only game where I get the problem. I'm not sure what `tune-up` is, but I'll give that a shot if I can get more information. I've got the latest drivers for my graphics card, too. My directX is 9.0c

Thanks for the prompt response <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
