Installation error message

I am attempting to install build 12.1 on my new computer (with Vista). I am applying the build over a vanilla install of the game. When the installation process begins, I get an error message saying, "Cannot create output file: C:/Program Files...engine.exe." What could cause this error, and how do I fix it?

Thanks!

before we all start whining on vista, did the game work before you installed the mod?

Yes, though it's on compatibility mode for XP SP2.

It won't install. The installation process begins, but stops seconds later and gives me the error message.

Sounds like a faulty download, yes. Please try downloading again.

Well, I've tried redownloading it, and I get the same result. I've also tried Build 13 (the full version), and I get a similar message (though with build 13 it cannot open/create cio-config.exe). In fact, I had tried 12.1 because 13 didn't work, so I thought I'd try something that I had installed on my old machine.

maybe the installation program is somehow incompatible with vista? it seems unlikely though, as it worked on pieter's computer. right?

It looks like this is a security feature on Vista. It needed Administrator approval to complete the installation, and apparently, even though I'm the only user and administrator, I needed to give it special permission. Sorry for taking up your time, and thank you for your prompt and helpful responses.

This action requires administrator approval. Cancel or Allow?

I never actually used the Build 13 installer on Windows Vista, so I don't know if it works. I indeed noticed the ridiculous number of confirmation requirements AND I found out how to get RID OF THEM!!! Go to "User Account" in the "Control Panel" and turn off "User Account Management". Note: The names here are translated Dutch names. The real names might be slightly different. But it IS possible! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />
