I'm still working on Ugly Smuggler Fast Barque

WOW PETROS!!! that is what i call a High detailed SHip!!

very Beautiful!!

//by the way, maby you should make the window's transparent??

Don't shoot the fast barque! Too beautifull. But I wonder, it would be nice to have also an average version of it, so that you also have one that isn't that special, so that nations can use it too (the stock game also had 2 variations of 1 ship)

Impressive Petros! For a supposedly ugly ship, she SURE IS PRETTY! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

To Chris Roupé: Making the windows transparent through textures, only to show the nothingness behind them? Doesn't sound like a good idea to me.

Petros is not a modeler; he's a texturer. You can't put a cabin in there with texture-work only.

does look good indeed. i think the sails matter quite a lot though. it might not look as good with regular sails. but nevermind that, i can't detect any flaws! the the yard going through the sail look slightly odd, that's something that's a bit unavoidable with the PotC ships.

WOAH! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" /> That looks gooooood ..me wants to sail with it so bad!

wait, i found something! not a mistake, actually, but it would make sense if there was a rope running from the lowest end of the two lateen yards to the hull, so it's angle would be better controllable. and maybe one from the top ends too.

As a smuggler ship, I will require those black and red sails in ships_init by default.
I'll take some screen shots with white sails for you, to see what she looks like if a player decides to use those.

Yeah, that is the problem with all these ships, even the stock Xebec does that.

There actually is one running from the lower end on the main yard to the foremast.
Connecting it any other place on the hull didn't always look right as those ropes really don't control the positioning of the yards and the game has them swinging all over the place i.e. through the mast!
I didn't put one on the mizzen. Didn't look right anywhere I connected it.

i see. well, if it looks worse, then it's indeed better to just leave them off. although it should, in theory, be possible to make the rigging in a way so that it doesn't look wierd. they managed to do it in reality.

one thing that could be interesting to know is that in reality, a lateen yard wouldn't swing round like this if the wind was on the other side of the sail. what they did was lift the yard up into vertical position, and then swing the lower end to the other side of the mast. then they would lower the yard back down again. this could be of some use in determining the length of the lateen yards. it's lower half should fit between the hingepoint and the deck.

Thanks, it is the standard I aim for. These are also some of my work.

It's just sad that they are only good for capturing and sinking by the POTC Napoleonic/Lord Nelson crowd.
With the exception of this one.

Speaking of which, I did it so long ago, now I'm seeing so much rigging that can be improved and a big error as well.
I think I'll go back to improve on this one.

I've had you in mind all the time I was working on the fast barque.
I'll package the parts and get them on ftp today or tomorrow.

You can say what you want, but those ARE pretty ships. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

That would enable players to play the game with a 1600's feel in which <i>your</i> ships would have a much bigger part to play and Napoleonic ships would never be encountered.

that wasn't meant to be funny! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

oh please, DO improve the pirate corvette as you see fit. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> you made those two war galleons too, right? i have one at the moment, and i'm definately going to use it. it's pretty fast! one thing about the pirate corvette's rigging that i've noticed, which is in fact built into all corvettes, is that one of the ropes of the jib is attached in a really wierd way. it runs through two topsails towards the mizzen mast, which isn't exactly logical, especially when the foremast comes down, leaving the sail up although it isn't attached anymore.

Yep, that is the big error I'm talking about.

don't forget the fix for the missing fourth stern cannon that julian made. it WAS him, right? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

That was KevinAtlanta. I've got all them Corvette's fixed in my game including the pirate corvette if I remember correctly.
