How to turn the video skip option?

Hi, could somebody tell me please, how do i enable the option to skip the in-game videos such as oxbay invasion? I'm trying to rename the isles, and i have to watch it over, and over again :p

I want to be able to do it in 'pure' POTC, not the build <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Also, I've been messing with the files, and i'm getting the idea about POTC engine and how to mod it. However, i have problems with re-naming the islands and tows. Somebody help please?
 
Hi zkajo,
If you are using Build14alpha8:

I dont know what build you are playing, but you can skip the ingame videos by going to options->advanced options.
Renaming the isles can be done in ..\RESOURCE\INI\TEXTS\ENGLISH\common.ini. Search for "island names" in that file.
But it is important that you only edit the second name(that one visible ingame) , i.e. if it says:
string = Douwesen,"Douwesen" - only the "Douwesen" tag should be renamed

If you rename both names,the whole name system fails and you have no nametag on your islands at all.
Also, there is a bunch of other stuff you can alter in there, but be sure to preserve a backup-copy of the original file, in case you mess up.

It did not work! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" /> The name is still the same! (i started a new game).

Once i managed to change the name somehow, but 2 names appeared at once ;/
 
the coding has changed so severely since stock PotC that i doubt anyone here could help. most just don't have any knowledge of the stock coding.
 
Thanks, ok, last question (i think xD). What is the most stable version of Build mod? One that has everything done in it. Cuz still there are some unfinished dialogs in 13final aren't there?

I just want a version i could mod on freely, without need to correct any previous bugs <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
 
i haven't found any unfinished dialogues in build 13 final. only the occasional CTD and random bug. it's managable. you can install the directsail mod on top, but that's a nasty one in terms of CTD's. it works most of the time, but it has more CTD's than is practical.

you are always free to correct bug, no matter what version. i would recommend using build 14 alpha 8 though if that's really what you're after. otherwise your fixes could be out of date.

Hm, i think there was a dialog with one of the guys from the navy? Don't matter. I'll try 12.1, and i think i will stick to it <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
Maybe i'm dumb and can't install it properly? xD

Oh btw. Let's say i got hang of it, and i started to produce my own mod, and i wanted to use some features from Build mods. Do i have to ask, or is it just like open-share mod?
 
build 12.1 might indeed be your best option if you want to use your own mods. it's still very similar to the stock game, but it doesn't have the new worldmap. very stable, but the economy is really unbalanced. if you want to install it, i would really recommend to remove your own mods from the files, since they would probably conflict with the build files.

you would be allowed to use them, as long as there are credentials from the original modders when you plan to share your mods with others.

So i don't really have to ask, as long as I add those who worked on it in the credits? Ok, thanks. What do you mean by unbalanced economy?
 
You should ask them, but you can´t. Build 12.1 was made by people who are not here anymore.

Your next question will probably be: "Why would I have to ask them first - they are getting credited in my mod?"

And I would answer: Because you grab their stuff and make it your own. Credits or not, you are still modifying on top of their work in a way, they never meant it to be. I suggest you start from scratch, learning how to make dialogs, graphics, editing buildings and make ships.
When you achieved all these skills, please come back and tell me that I can grab anything you made, alter it to my own needs and include it in this mod. I seriously doubt you would say yes..
The reason, I could answer your question before was, that I did this myself. I changed the name of the islands, changed graphics and code and other stuff for my own needs. But even the simple things, like altering and remaking other peoples work, takes up all my time and it is really hard to learn. But that still does not make me a modder. Only if I did things from scratch, I would be called a modder.

I do not want to steal anybody's work. I would not release mod, that I didn't make. I know that stealing a mod is still a theft! However...
I've been modding gothic for a very long while now. Me and my companions have created a feature that allows us to make buldings etc. (moving the mesh up). And we are happy to share it with others, as long as they ask. I know that those people have worked very, very hard to create Build mod, but hey, if there is so many great features in the mod, why not to use them in other mods? As long as people who made them are mentioned. And i would be happy to say 'Hey, it's not cuz of me, those guys worked a lot harder than i did'
 
Ok, just to know if I understand you:
You only want some of the mods in the build and then put them together in their original form? That is going to be hard work <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> In that case, you only need to credit the modders.

We do have an exchange deal with some russian modders, but I am not 100% into what the deal is about. You would have to ask Pieter Boelen about a similar thing if you ever want to release it. He is not here very often, but try sending him a private message.

as for the economy, it's way too easy in build 12.1 to get loads of cash. capturing a ship, for example, give huge amounts of money in comparison to later build versions. but that might not be too hard to adjust.

I just rememberend what Petros use to say about his work.
And what all the modders were saying about their work in the "Major breaktrough with Akella"-thread about credits.
 
And that could be a little underestemated <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />. I once only took a statue of a ship of his, and didn't credited it, he was not so glad about that. I only mind it if they take a WHOLE skin, so 75% mine and credit it as theirs.
 
If you're not going to release it, I don't care what you do with our files.
If you do want to release it, just let us know what exactly you did.
However, if you ARE going to mod, I'd much prefer it if you actually do new stuff FOR the Build mod.
