How to give companion ship captains equipment?

I have a fleet of 4 ships but the other captains in my fleet have very little equipment. They don't even have a spyglass. Do they need extra equipment like a spyglass? And if they do, how do you give equipment to them? I tried relieving one of them of command to take them to shore with me so I could trade with them only to see the captain I temporarily replaced him with drive off with the ship! Talk about loyalty!

just that. next time just make sure to replace the companion with someone a little bit more loyal

Oh oh, I'm in trouble. That's just it, the ones I made captain are pretty loyal, my officers seem happier discontented. I see the thread about making these guys happy, I'll reread it. Thanks for the info.
