How to attack a city?

Hi, I am new to this game, and am wondering how you can attack citys?

Land a bit up coast (so you don't anchor in the harbour) and then march to the city. You will be presented with the option.

Alternatively, antagonise the nation so much that any city with a fort fires on you. This will lead to them shooting you as you sail in - you then get the option to attack them.

Darknight is right. The only problem is, especially on small islands, you can´t land on shore and march to the city, because the collision detection is rather generous. There, the only way is to fire with spacebar at the fort until it starts to shoot back. When you then sail into the city, you´ll be given the option to attack.

Or not . . . . I wanted to tick off the French as they were at war with everyone and I was a Duke with them but not much with anyone else. Taking ships is okay, but I fancied sacking a few cities (not sure Louisa from Petit Goave would approve, but never mind . . . )

So I bombarded Curacao (which I had made French a few years ago) flat . . . and they still let me sail in!!

In addition to bombarding a city, hang out around the city and attack all shiping that tries to leave or enter the city, this also ticks off the local Gov. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
