Help, Attack Of the Mutant `Pant-faced` Ofiicers!

Diomed

Landlubber
Hey,
Perhaps someone could help me out, I recently just started to learn how to edit skins. I edited a couple, and it worked out, however when I went to edit the skin of Offic_fra (the french officer) it turned out all messed up. I guess the skin loaded wrong because it came out (in the game) with the texture for the pants, going down the face, to the chest, with the texture for the shirt covering the hat. Could someone tell me what I did wrong?

Oh, also, what kind of graphics/paint tool do you porfessional skin modders use? Photoshop?

Thanks in advance.

<snicker> I've done that too, Diomed, don't feel bad! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Did you happen to rotate the image before you saved it, but didn't rotate it back?

OR you might have inadvertently saved it as a different model without realizing it? I did that, saved a French model skin over a Spanish model instead of the proper French model and came up with this:

<img src="http://www.ganotherapyusa.com/extras/geneticks.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

Rather startling when I came across him in the game as I had NO IDEA I'd done this! (LOL!)

I use Photoshop, Diomed, but I have heard of others using a free graphics program called "GIMP" which apparently has a lot of the nice features of Photoshop - without the hefty pricetag...

I like Photoshop for the layering - You can edit images on layers and go back and forth to test things without losing the original or previous edits - I also save a lot of versions...

For example, my Catalina de Erauso skin has gone through about fifteen different versions - and is STILL not finished... And my "Sneaky Trader" is also going through a lot of versions...

(Oh, Cat beat me to it. I suspected something like that as I wrote my post. Anyway, here's what I had)

I use PSP, myself... would use Photoshop if it offered free trials.

I'm familiar with your problem; it really makes for some `scary-looking` dudes. Just be sure the texture image is oriented correctly -- usually the face is in the `upper-lefthand` corner, with the pants below and the shirt at a 90 degree angle on the right side. Usually. It depends on the texture.

If you're certain your texture is oriented properly (and you may have to keep rotating it 90 degrees till it's right)... then I'm afraid I haven't a clue.

... you know, come to think of it, a trick like this would make for a lovely little leper colony or bunch of hideous monsters.

Yep, check the rotation. I've done it a buch of times. Otherwise check to see if you saved with mipmaps. I accidentally did that once and as I recalled it had a similar outcome. That was a while ago though, so I can't quite remember.

Post a pic of your Cat character, Cat. I think it'd be neat to see the character you use. If you are willing of course.

Oh yes, I've had pix up, here's an old thread...

I'm not using him/her, just decided one day to fiddle something up - she's not finished...
