Having trouble with open sea

IntrepIDOwnz

Landlubber
It seems that whenever I try and move on the open sea with more then 2 ships the games ultimately crashes and only gives me 2-3 seconds to open the main menu and save or do anything at all. I have tried the enable error logs but I can't seem to find it. Can anyone tell me what to look for/do?

Change values to 1 in Engine configuration settings:
[script]
debuginfo = 1
codefiles = 0
runtimelog = 1 ......creates a Errorlog
;tracefiles = 0
not sure about tracefiles, but does no harm to change to 1 and remove ;
you find the file in the mainfolder

Which game version are you using? Original game or any of the modpacks?

I am using the Build 13 final and i tried the error logs but all i get is that 2-3 second window of movement on the open sea screen before it freezes and crashes to desktop not sure how to fix. Also not sure if this should be a problem but it usually does this if i have 3-4 ships with me my games doesnt like fleets <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

Check the system.log, compile.log and possible error.log that have been generated in your main PotC folder after the crash and post them here.
Maybe there's a clue as to the reason in there.

Try this.
Go to: POTC\PROGRAM\Worldmap\"worldmap.c" file and set MAPSPEED to 1.0.

I forget; did we set it back to the 1.0 default again in Build 13 Final or only in subsequent versions? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

Also, installing <a href="http://www.piratesahoy.net/build/midnight_fullcargohold_ctdfix_b13.zip" target="_blank">this fix</a> on top of Build 13 is always a very good idea.
It prevents a CTD that occurs at midnight when your cargo hold is full (for example after looting an enemy ship).

No, in Build 13 Final it is set to .6

That is a good idea too!

I don't think I explained it well enough. My world map is fine IF I only have 1 to 2 ships with me (In my fleet), but once I get 3 or more ships my world map freezes. An example would be after a battle and I capture 2 or 3 ships (Because I only take the ones who surrender). It seems that either A. My computer can't take the stress (which is a lie because it runs CoD4 and 5 like Minesweeper back when Minesweeper was fun) or B. something went wrong when the RunMe copied the files (I have re-run the RunMe and the problem goes away for about 2 game weeks and then re-occurs).

Hope this helps to find a solution.

Also thanks Pieter for the CTD file might come in handy <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="bow.gif" />

So are you saying that you did set MAPSPEED to 1.0. and you still have the problem?

The mapspeed thing actually seems to make the whole game more stable; not just the worldmap. Very strange indeed and I don't think anybody understands why, but that's what seems to be the case. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

What you describe actually sounds like the full cargo hold at midnight CTD. Did your freezes happen at midnight? If so, the file I linked to should probably fix it. That's THE major bug that was still in Build 13 that people kept running into, unsurprisingly. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

My Build 13 Final and previous versions all have it set to 0.6 with no problems at all. It's set to 1.0 in Build 14.

One of my fixes was to prevent ships being generated with too much crew, which would result in a black crew bar in the icon. I doubt this is the problem here as it only occurs after a battle and on the worldmap.

I saw some oddities after battles originally when my cargo hold was WAY overloaded... not just a little bit, either. The cargo weight calculations seemed to be off. The full cargo hold at midnight CTD should have fixed that, and I haven't seen it since getting that fix so it seems to work. I found at least one place in the code where the cargo load wasn't being calculated through the normal means, and that was also causing a problem.

The full cargo hold at midnight fix should solve the problem, I think.

I see it now!!!

Yes, Pieter, the freezes happen at midnight and the file has crushed that bug with a size 13 shoe.

Also, Petros, from what I hear the MAPSPEED 1.0 is helping and I will do that today thanks for that.

Ah! So it WAS the famous midnight crash bug again! Soon... we'll release an update for Build 13 that contains the fix and the bug will never bother anybody again! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/danse1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dance" border="0" alt="danse1.gif" />

Lol thanks Pieter time to loot and raid all the dutchmen I want <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Evil! That's what you are! You wait until you try BUILD 14 and you try to raid the FLYING Dutchman! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whippa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":whipa" border="0" alt="whippa.gif" />

HA! My ENTIRE Spanish fleet can go crush the Dutchies for me! I will be busy dealing with the British AND your Flying Dutchman! En Guard! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/duel_pa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ixi" border="0" alt="duel_pa.gif" />

But... but... the Dutchman is INVINCIBLE with her six bow chasers instead of two! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

guns can be destroyed... masts can be shot down. it's more or less my strategy with the slow gargantuan ships. they splinter anything slower than them and shoot the masts off of anything faster.
