I think that's to do with the military, and forced service - I know that was done here during one of the World Wars  <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> .
 
World Wars and Vietnam here ... My dad was in Vietnam. He did the "I'd rather volunteer than be drafted" approach. He has some interesting stories. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
 
I'll bet he does - my Dad has a couple friends who were in Vietnam. Some of what they experienced is right frightening - like standing still, trying to blend into the jungle whilst an entire battalion of NVA passes by <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" /> . It took 3 hours for them to pass.
 
My older brother was in Vietnam, but he mostly partied. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":blah:" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

Good stories though.
