When I started a new game I didn't see this and maybe it was there, I'm not sure.... but after I devided the plunder for the first time I noticed my character has some sort of halo or a crown of white lines above his head during the fencing scenes. What's that all about? Looks like he's going mental or something....

what u are seeing is the spinning circles that represent u having been dizzied during the duel.

it doesnt happen all the time and is perfectly normal and part of the game.

being dizzy makes u a bit slower on the response time while it lasts.

It means he's been injured and is temporarily dizzy - you can still fight, but your reaction time may be slowed down a bit. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

Its a marketing gimmick, pay no attention to it.

thanks all. Thanks GIJoe for the other two threads, they do not seems to solve the issue unfortunately. Right now it is unclear whether it's caused by:
- marketing gimmick
- being taunted
- missing a slash attack
- sliding down the stairs
Is there a definitive answer?
Did anybody actually notice that your attacks/moves become slower when you're dizzy?

Oh boy... Its NOT a marketing gimmick, I was referencing a TV commercial. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

It is a result of being dizzy from either missing a sword thrust, and spinning around, or sliding down a staircase, being old.. etc etc... It does slow you down a bit, and either one of you can get dizzy..

group? additions?

Thank you GIJoe! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Thank everyone, I also learned about it from the knowledgeable posters here in these forums. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

You can make the other person dizzy by taunting them too (key 6 during the fight). <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whippa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":whipa" border="0" alt="whippa.gif" />

Taunt while he's doing that backflip thing, or swinging on the rope. He'll be momentarily stunned and you can hit him, then! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

Or taunt right after you have jumped over his slash or ducked under his high attack (whatever it was called). It may be the perfect moment to attack, but if the enemy seems too fast for you, it may be your only chance to slow him down a bit. You can usually squeeze in two taunts after a successful duck or jump...

Aye,ye should be able te give em a single finger salute te taunt him,I'd be guess'n five werks almost as well <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

If you're British, it should be two fingers... Hey... There's a mod, make the taunts `nation-specific`! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

The english longbowmen used their index finger & middle finger to pull back the bow. When the french caught bowmen they would cut those 2 fingers off, hence the bowmen would give the french the 2 fingered salute to show them their fingers were still there
