<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> there shipmates,

Does any one have a good working version of the GM Viewer tool that they could upload to the ftp? I've got the one from the Russian SLiB site but it crashes regularly and won't show all textures.

Cheers <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Uh? That's odd. I never had troubles with the version I have. And, for all I know, it's the same as the one on the SLiB site. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />
Anyway: I uploaded my version of the program to the FTP in "GM Viewer.zip". I hope it helps you. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Many thanks, Pieter.

I'll give it a go.

I think there is only one version we all use.

I noticed that it worked fine way back when I started here but when I changed my GeForce 5200 for a 6600GT, the colors and more correctly, the lighting no longer worked.

I posted about this a long time ago but no one had an answer.

I'm guessing that the viewer was designed around the older vid drivers and will never be updated, just like the 3-D modeling plug-in for Maya was for ver 4.5 and has never been updated either.

Thanks, Petros.

I thought as much about it being the same version.

For some reason I can get fully textured models of ships and most other items to display, however I can't get textured character models to display. A major pain since I'm working on character models at the moment. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" /> Anyway, I've just been working around it.

Cheers <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Just a thought, you are pointing it to the Resource/textures/characters folder right?

Yeah, that's that's the one.

I've always thought that I must be doing something wrong and that the character models need some other sort of path for their textures, and yes I've experimented, sooo... I'm hoping you're going to tell me that what I need to do is...??? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Oh Man I'm trying to think .... there should be no reason why it would show ship.tga.tx and not character.tga.tx.

Sometimes the viewer.ini file gets corrupted and the thing doesn't work right.
I keep a copy of it to replace it when that happens.

Other than that, I'm at a total loss. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

Hey thanks, matey.

I've got two separate copies now and reinstall whenever theres a problem/crash, to no avail. Hmmm... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

I usually remove viewer.ini when it gives a problem. The program auto-generates it anyway.

I have exactly the same problem on my WinXP notebook, while on my old Win98 PC everything works fine. So, as Petros said, the GM viewer might not be designed for new drivers/OS.

Working around it? How?

I intended to take snapshots of some textured models in the GM Viewer to make portraits for the character models I'm working on at the moment. I took some some screenshots in-game instead (used substitute portraits to get the models in-game) and edited them.

Cheers <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

On the latest version of Inez Dias' TOOL you can use it like a GM viewer with textures applied, (my GM viewer only shows the outlines as well, no textures. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/urgh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":urgh" border="0" alt="urgh.gif" /> ) Here's a picture of a model with the texture from the TOOL:

<img src="http://www.pix8.net/pro/pic/332ZK34H/809793.jpg" border="0" alt="IPB Image" />

You can rotate the model and move in closer to see it, which is a lot easier than having to start up the game and hiring an officer to get a look at your work. However, in the TOOL I can't see the swords, ships and other models that I can see in the GM viewer! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

Can anyone tell me why a sword will look perfectly good in the GM and then go all funky in the game, even with the env texture applied? You don't have to be crazy to retexture models, but I think it helps... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huhh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:k" border="0" alt="huhh.gif" />

Hey thanks, Sir Christopher.

I'll try it out.

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> there Thomas,

I'm making portraits for JMVs military skins, currently working on English Marines. It's up for debate at the moment as to whether these "Napoleonic" skins should be in the Build, however they look damned fine and there seems to be a certain demand for them, so they'll be up on ftp soon.

Wow! that's quite an undertaking! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" /> Thanks for taking that on, and I'm sure that JMV575 would appreciate your efforts on this. Portraits that you posted are looking really good, and I agree, time period or not, those are good looking models! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="bow.gif" />

Thanks, Sir Christopher. Big thanks of course to JMV for the textures in the first place.

Putting them up on the ftp now.

Cheers <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />
