GM Exporter Issue

Grumblepunk

Sailor
Storm Modder
Trying to load this `plug-in`, or rather three `plug-ins`, into Maya and getting an error. Specifically, the only one that Maya accepts is the geometry export. Both animation and camera give me a "Need to update this `plug-in`" error. Does anyone have a solution? It's perfectly likely that this is operator error. If so, what am I doing wrong?

Damnit. I had another question. Feels like a Monday. xD:

Yar, that link is dead, or was. I am using the same thing though. Snagged my copy from PA's download section. xD:

Here's something I found, don't know if it'll make any difference to your dilemma - the files for the plugins &tc go here:

Scripts go under Maya4.5ScriptsOther

Export.dll goes under Maya4.5Bin

Plugin files go under Maya4.5BinPlugins

Maybe that will help. ??? xD:

Code:
file -f -new;

select -cl;

// Result: ./untitled //

// Error: `Plug-in`, "SD2CamExport" was compiled against too old a version of the Maya API and is thus incompatible with the current Maya version. Obtain a newer version of this `plug-in`. (SD2CamExport) //

// Error: `Plug-in`, "SD2AniExport" was compiled against too old a version of the Maya API and is thus incompatible with the current Maya version. Obtain a newer version of this `plug-in`. (SD2AniExport) //
Perhaps Maya 4.5 is to new for PotC?

No, I think it's what Akella used. Those plugins were originally offered to us by Akella so we could play with the game like we do. I think they were made specifically for Maya 4.5, and they will not work with any newer versions.

Are you sure you don't have a "4.5.1" version of Maya? That might be causing the error report.

Sure wish some of the "real" answer men would come around here - it's been tough troubleshooting lately without them. xD:

Well, I dunno how to check aside from opening Maya and such. Everything says 4.5 and I haven't d/l'd any patches or anything because compatability was the chief reason I went and got the older version. Sorta like my 3dsMax. I have version 4 of that because you can't physique MW meshes with 5 or 6. Ah, the life of a wannabe 3d game modeler. xD:

To my knowledge, not with Maya - however if you use 3D Studio Max, you can use Inez Dias's character exporter tool:

I *think* this method can be used to do ships, too. What exactly are you trying to do?

Hi Cat,

Well, I'd like to make a hanseatic cog. I think it would be great to make the entire Hansa mod, with Baltic sea, Hansa towns, all kinds of ships... Something like Patrician III in `3-D`. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I have already made some models for TRS2004 using GMax and I know that it is not as simple as just making a model and exporting it. There is always a naming convention of some sort, helper points, etc.

As far as I know all the ships in POTC were made using Maya and it would help me a lot to see how it's been done. So thats why i want to use Maya this time.

Thank you for your input though <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pirate2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p:" border="0" alt="pirate2.gif" />

Sounds cool!!! Unfortunately, I don't think anyone's been able to actually USE Maya (you have to have 4.5 ONLY to work with the plugins from Akella) to export ships, it's all been done through 3DMax.

Would be VERY interested to find out how to do it through Maya, tho. If you work out a solution, by all means, please post it here so we can all share the knowledge! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

Post some screenys if you have the chance, would love to see what you're doing! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />
