Getting the game again...

Hey all,

Im thinking about getting PotC again, but im not sure. I just wanted to know a few things about the most recent build mod...

The most recent is 13 rite?

Can you install that one on its own, so without having to install any others before it? And i have never used a build mod before, so what does it change? Does it make the game much better to play?

Any info would be great, thanks,

The most recent Build version is Build 13, yes. Although there are some oddish problems with it left, it does seem to work reasonably well. It does not require any previous modpacks to be installed.

Actually: The most recent Build version is Build 13 Update 2. However, the update is not available at the moment because the file server of my site is down. I hope that will be fixed shortly.

What the Build does is simple: It makes the game much better. It solves bugs and adds many more new features. In Build 13 there are new islands, more characters, more ships, more interesting sea battles, more quests and much, much more.
 
Oh cool its sounds really good. The whole new islands thing sounds great :p

I think i might have to get this game again .. even if its just to see the build mod <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
 
if you really decide having it again, i'll post some important things you have to know before playing the build.

Hey all,
Also, would anyone happen to know if Xfire picks it up when your playing? I can't answer that.
I can tell you that the problem of not getting back to the game using Alt-Tab is no problem.

In engine.ini set:
full_screen = 0
And then in the same file, set your game screen resolution equal to, or higher than, your Windows desktop resolution.

@ Petros, thats great, it was the only thing i didnt like about PotC, i would hear something like Xfire or MSN, i would minimize the game forgetting to save and would have to restart the game >_<, but if that fixes it then there is no problems <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

One thing, my screen res is 1440 x 900, can the game take that? I have been having problems with other games when i try to match my res to the in-game one... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

Should be possible. I once set PotC to work under a REALLy weird resolution and it looked weird, but it did work. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />
 
things you really need to know:

corpses remain where they lie now. you need to press T to loot them and make them dissapear. otherwise they will remain an obstacle. boardings are an exception.

you need basic ship defence and you will have to organise a firedrill to extinguish fires. this can be turned off in the buildsettings. during a firedrill, the sails are furled and the cannons doused (so you can't fire) so no cannons explode (yes, they can be destroyed now) and the crew can concentrate on the fire.

fireing manually on deck now has a toggle on it. press V to fire in the direction you point the indicator. othrwise the crew fires in the same way as in flying camera mode.

weapons now wear over time and can break. broken and damaged weapons can be fixed at the blacksmith. the breaking can be turned off in the buildsettings.

in the tutorial, you will now have a new option when talking with malcom. if you choose this you will get the alternative starting situation, but i recommend waiting with this until you are a bit more familiar with this version.

pistols and rifles now use gunpowder and ammo. cannons now use gunpowder as well. but you can turn those things off. disabling the gunpowder and ammo for handheld weapons causes a bug, but it's nothing serious. the place where the ammo and gunpowder should be are simply an empty space.

which ammo for which handheld gun/pistol/handcannon/rifle/etc. :

pistol bullets: short pistol, long pistol, brace of small/medium/large pistols (one each), scrapper pistol, dual barrel and quad barrel pistol.

grapeshot: grapeshot pistol, musketoon, blunderbuss.

musket bullets: musket.

gunpowder: all.

you can only keep 6 units of gunpowder and six units of ammo at a time, but this can be increased with various items which you need to equip to make them work.

example:

6x gunpowder
1x musket bullet
3x pistol bullets
2x grapeshots

your crew will now use wheat and rum.

Looks like there is some neat stuff in the mod, and can you really use muskets ?!
 
yep, but the animation is the same as that of the pistol, so it looks a bit wierd. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" /> there not the best fire-arms either.

I cant wate till my game comes now, it was a good game to start with, but with new ships, people, islands and other things .. it will make it like a whole new game <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/william.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":will" border="0" alt="william.gif" />
