For a ship closer to a mobile base...

Seb

Privateer
Storm Modder
I will warn you first : i'ven't any clue on how to do that, some fine modders here might now, so here are my ideas anyway, if it can be interesting for someone...

1) Couldn't we allow the saves in the captain's cabin of the ship, so we could stay on sea longer, without having to go back on land?

2) To each officer it's place corresponding to it's speciality! (if of course you have the concerned officer)

You would be able to meet your first mate in the captain's cabin

Your quartermaster could wait for you in the crew quarters, you could ask him some mens to go ashore and as usual anything concerning the crew

You could find your canonneer on the guns deck

And i've had another idea, adding the cargo hold as a visitable place in the ship, as you did for the crew deck and the gun deck.
In your hold you would be able to see
your purser next to the cargo, with him you could set the rations on half, normal or double and next to the walls of the ships your carpenter that would give you your ship shape and you could ask him some repairs...

Hope you'll find those ideas interesting <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />

I think those are some excellent ideas. They are already half-implemented, but their used must be extended and ironed out. I am going to work on a list of ideas that would help make the game feel more like a new game and less like a collection of excellent mods put together. This idea will be a part of this. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

thanks ^^ I'm happy to know that there are possibilities to do that, that might reinforce the ambient of the ship and the idea of a living crew that is not only numbers in the interface, we could also have a little gunnery crew on the gun deck and put the prisonners in the hold with a crewmen to guard them <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whippa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":whipa" border="0" alt="whippa.gif" />

As it is, when I go into my captains cabin I meet with my Navigator, and my other officers (gunner and tough) are on the crew deck.

Yes it's already a bit like that but we can improve it, adding assigned places for each officer and each specificityn thayt wouldn't be just following you in your cabin as they do, with well defined options and possibilities for each one...

Have a look at <a href="http://pieter.piratesahoy.org/ideas.htm" target="_blank">this</a> page. I wrote up a whole bunch of ideas here on officers aboard your ship. Would be quite a lot of work to do it all. We should try to think up a more simple way.

Those are exellent ideas, joining the question of the defined places for officers who have to stay aboard, but as you say, unfortunately, we have limits, the data processing ones, those ideas makes me dreaming, i hope all of that will be possible, what you say is right, officers finishes by beeing all the same with the skills (maybe we could limit the skill points attributed and letting them level up to get health points?)

I think I know a way to use a navigator. Aboard the ship, you could tell him to instantly sail to a certain island - will still take some days, but at least you won't need to manuever on the map. The more skilled and trustworthy your navigator is, the greater the chance that the sailing to the requested island. Othervise, you may run into a storm, that takes you on a random island with a damaged ship.

And one more thing: you should be able to visit all the officers at their places, not just the partymembers. So partymembers can increase the party skills, while other officers can still be visited aboard your ship.

How about adding some custom abilities that certain officers, and only them, have? Like, cannoneer having the "cannoneer" ability that allows the player to fire cannons automatically (like Pieter wrote).
(While we're at it, I'd like to be able to tell him to "aim high" and "aim low" in order to damage either enemy ships sails or hull, respectively. Is it possible?)

And, one more thing: how about letting player to sleep on the ship? Right now, the only way to advance time to morning/evening is to use tavern.

I've been "sleeping on my ship" for some time now. Just go to the docks, board your ship, go to worldmap, and when the sky in the indicator gets light, go back to the island. You're right there at the docks, and it's early morning, not 10:30 am like it would be if you spent the night in the tavern.
