Fallout 3 is on . . .

For the fallout fans out there, Fallout 3 is available in North America and soon to be available in Europe.

Some <u>very</u> annoying problems reported on the PS3 - so if you use that platform, you might want to stay away until some patches hit the market too.

As usual there are teething problems with the new game.

Lots and lots of Securom related issues - including a patch from Securom!!!! yes, already.

but the most amazing thing was found today.

If you install the game - as suggested by the securom site - directly from exploring the disk - you will bypass securom on the install.

Then <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/24.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rofl" border="0" alt="24.gif" /> if you

ZOMG this was last used in the 1980's

Then if you

OMG its just too funny to think about

Then if you

completely ignore the Fallout launcher
and start the game from the Fallout.exe
(Of course there's a 3 somewhere in that line)

The game completely ignores Securom while running

ZOMG Securom just shot itself in the crotch. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/monkeydance.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mi" border="0" alt="monkeydance.gif" /> <img src="http://static.bethsoft.com/bgs/style_emoticons/default/woot.gif" border="0" class="linked-image" />

No s**t. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/24.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rofl" border="0" alt="24.gif" /> That's priceless!

Guess that explains why it's...uh...been available in certain places for nearly a week now. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

I guess Securom decided to fall out as game's name suggests. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/24.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rofl" border="0" alt="24.gif" />

The Fallout of Securom! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" /> Warning! The area is polluted by toxic bits and bytes. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/24.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rofl" border="0" alt="24.gif" />

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Turns out you can kill anybody you want in the game, and it doesn't break any of the quests <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" /> . What's Bethesda trying to do, make up for Oblivion? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

well, you can kill anyone in PotC hundreds of times over. but i presume they mean that the quests bend into another route to circumvent the problem you created. it would be so much fun to explore it's breaking point. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> i sense a challenge! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

I won't be able to find out, though - you need a supercomputer to run it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> That 007: Circumventing Intergalactic Toast, or whatever it's called, looks somewhat interesting. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

It's good to have friends who buy new computers every couple months. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> I got to spend a few hours in Fallout 3 yesterday.

There's something highly suspicious about the opening of the game, as in "Hey, this tunnel complex is the EXACT SAME ONE that's in Oblivion!" <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

Or "Hey! Mudcrabs! But...I thought this was Fallout 3, not Oblivion!" <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

They could at least have stolen some textures from Half-Life like the guys who made S.T.A.L.K.E.R. did! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Now what's the difference? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> Fallout or Oblivion? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> Bah! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> Both sound post-apocalyptic. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/24.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rofl" border="0" alt="24.gif" />

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

What makes it worse is that Oblivion sounds more post-apocalyptic than Fallout. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/24.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rofl" border="0" alt="24.gif" />

But the game "Oblivion" itself has NOTHING to do with the post-apocalypse. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> WHAT WERE THEY THINKING!?! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Oblivion has NOTHING to do with oblivion. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Seriously, what are you on? Timbits? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> You're nearly as nuts as me! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

I'm just bored and crazy. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

Oh. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

To Rupert: So you've tried this game? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> Any good? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" /> You haven't
made a review of this game yet. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> I'm talking about Fallout 3. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

like any new game its got its handfull of bugs

the construction set is <!--coloro:#00FF00--><span style="color:#00FF00"><!--/coloro-->rumored<!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc--> to finally come out this week - Mods are already appearing without it.

Actually
the game is quite alot of fun and seems free of the basic problems of Oblivion.

Major hints -

see any holotape, pick it up
explore completely
lockpick and/or science are must-haves
Money is no problem - think about this one - just packrat and sell
VATS pwns - so increase VATS functionality with Perks
Max level is 20, so beware of experience enhancing Perks, they'll <!--coloro:#FF0000--><span style="color:#FF0000"><!--/coloro-->burn<!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc--> you

Like any Bethesda game - SAVE SAVES <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="bow.gif" />

The actual game bugs resemble bugs from Oblivion, undropable quest items after the quest finishes, but most of the quests are many times more robust than Oblivion - its much harder to break a quest, but beware its actually easy to shortcut the mainquest (reduces playing time)

Making companions essential (PC console function) can save lots of headaches
Making caravans [traveling merchants] essential is a MUST - they get pwned by the wilderness encounters and the game knows they have died making their scripts work differently if you simply resurrect them

Overall
This game is easily worth the money - especially when compared to <!--coloro:#00FF00--><span style="color:#00FF00"><!--/coloro-->S<!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc--><!--coloro:#FF0000--><span style="color:#FF0000"><!--/coloro-->poor<!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc--> which isn't worth anything

Okay. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> Sounds indeed worth getting that game when me gets
a new rig which will take some time until I get it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />
