era selection

rikky

Landlubber
hello all
just started the game and i got a quick question (sorry if this is the wrong thread btw). in the beginning when i have to choose my name and skill and starting era, i can't choose the starting era. it remains grayed out and when i click continue it just goes to the nation selection part. it lets me choose a special skill and the difficulty tho. how do i choose the time period? do i have to beat the game first? thanx for all the help

rikky

Dear rikky <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />

Sure you can choose the era you want. Therefore you have to raise your difficulty level. On apprentice you can only play the default era 1660. It´s easy when you know how . <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

I always play 1680 on swashbuckler. This my favourite era. Plundering ships and townes.... making a lot of money. I just finished the game on swashbuckler as a spanish duke and made the whole caribbean spanish. No french, dutch and english townes <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> everything is spanish! So THIS is a real Career mateys. Don't you agree?

yep..

I like to play Pirates like that as well.

I have managed to make the whole caribean dutch in the 1680 era. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

oh and by the way, in the cutscenes when talking with people are they supposed to say short weird sentences in some unknown language? or shoud they actually say what the subtitles do... because im not sure if somethings wrong with my speakers lol.
(sorry for sounding like a newbie <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":c" border="0" alt="mad.gif" /> )

Your speakers are ok, they speak in their own "language". <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

And by this is does not mean, if they are Spanish they speak spanish, or if the are English they speak english. The characters in the game all speak gibberish, dubbed "firaxian" by some.

There is nothing wrong with your speakers and you cannot change how they talk. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

If I had meant their actual nation's language I really wouldn't have put "language" in quotes. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

"Whoah, just listen to those Spaniards talking in their 'language' again... they call this 'language'? They wouldn't now proper language if it bit their leg..." <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

No, I wouldn't have meant it like that. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I believe that language is more Simish than Firaxian, unless Firaxian is an offshoot of Simish. My Sims spoke that way long before now. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />
