PotC or Seadogs2 Engine.ini inserting the line'Core_Moduletools_launcher'
at the beginnig of the file. I hope not to muddle it this time.
Before I did this, I had a good look at the files residing in the Program folder.
Underneath all the subfolders are a lot of files which I could not read because
of encryption or what ever.
Than I inserted above line in Engine.ini, saved it and started the game.
After that got out of the game and went back to the Program folder and
all those file changed to plain english.
Hope that is what you where after Long John Silver!?
If not I'm sure you'll let me know! I will have a go at Aop at a later date!
If that one works for that game too, we could give those poor Programmer a hand
fixing it!!!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/buds.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":drunk" border="0" alt="buds.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/duel_pa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ixi" border="0" alt="duel_pa.gif" />

So let me get this straight your saying the way to possibly open the editor worked for you in PotC?! what people were talking about in this thread the other day:

<a href="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=8560" target="_blank">http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=8560</a>

If so that is a huge bit of news for the modders <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

hmm maybe you should post in that thread to Long John Silver - he could do with the cheering up <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Which files do you mean? The ones in the MODULES folder? The files in the PROGRAM and RESOURCE folders can be read and edited without problems, but the files in the MODULES folder can't be edited for all I know. Could you please tell me exactly what you did and what the effect was?

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/poet.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hmm" border="0" alt="poet.gif" /> Well, the ones in the Modules folder are all .dll files. The one I looked at
is artifact.dll. the top is partly readable and further down are a lot of errors like
tloss error, sing error, unable to initialise heap R6027 and it goes on. But I get the feeling
thats not what your after. All the other files are the same. So its back to the drawingboard.
There has to be an Editor out there which should be opening these file proper? The same goes
for AOP which has some readable files and some not. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

The DLL files are simply unreadable. There is no editor available that will make them readable either. Which sucks, but that's how it is.

What happens when you add that line that you mentioned? Could you show the difference before and after?

ummm Pieter,I have a Editor program that reads AOP Dll, should read POTC as well <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/poet.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hmm" border="0" alt="poet.gif" /> I haven't realy tried that, but will have a go at that.
At the moment I'm looking for Decryption tools. That looks very
daunting however. Will keep on trying, you'll never know your luck!? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sailr.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":sail" border="0" alt="sailr.gif" />

That would be great! Like Thomas the Terror says: Please put it on the FTP! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

I'll give ye the link for it as it's freeware, I know nuth'n about editing Dll modules so am not positive this will work, although I did test it on Aop Dll and it opend them, kinda looked like a hex editor would like after opening a file. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />
<a href="http://www.wilsonc.demon.co.uk/d10resourceeditor.htm" target="_blank">http://www.wilsonc.demon.co.uk/d10resourceeditor.htm</a>

As the name says, that XN Resource Editor is a resource editor - one could import/export/modify resources (such as dialog boxes, menus, images) stored in dll files, and that's all. I'm affraid that this would little help us in modifing dll files, regardless PotC or AoP. For example, changing hardcoded things is still impossible - that would require to change <i>code</i> inside dll, for which we still have no access. Adding a bitmap into one of those files won't change anything either, as if we don't damage that file this way, it woudn't be understood by a program.

DLL files are produced by compilers and act as libraries for execution programs. There're two ways to alter their working; for us one method is next to impossible to achieve and second is extremely difficult:
1. Get source code to those MODULES\*.dll files (and to ENGINE.EXE would be great). After that everything get easy - one can recompile whole PotC/AoP files with MS Visual C++, for example.
2. With unavailable sources only one thing remains - so called reverse engineering. A person with a lot of free time and, most importantly, perfect knowledge of assembler language, would try to disassemble dlls from machine code to assembler language, make changes and compile them again.
Of course, I'm unable to use any of those possibilities (first, because I can't obtain an original source code, second, because I don't know assembler and 'reverse engineering' techniques at all). <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

Thanks fer imput KK, was hope'n this woulda helped <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

It is a pretty useful program though, Skull. Seems similar to the Resource Hacker program I've been using the modify the graphics on PotC's ENGINE.exe. This version looks like it's more easy to use though. So thanks a lot. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

I tried to open some of the DLL files from the MODULES folder, but it didn't show anything that can be changed in there. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />
