Dividing the plunder question

skadog

Do the prices of the ships you have to relinquish factor into the overall total to be divided? Or do you just loose them if you dont sell them at the shipwright before you divide the plunder?

Seems kind of lame that you cant keep your other ships or berth them if you dont have the minimum crew.

Me thinks its jest based on de gold ye 'ave at hand mate. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Speaking of Dividing the Plunder.

As I'm roaming the seas in my Royal Sloop, The Ornery Wench. I usually am trailed by a fleet of Treasure Galleons, that are filled up. How do you guys end up getting rid of the trade goods? It seems, that no matter what I do, the ports I try to sell my stuff at, only buy such a small number, compared to what I get, that I'm constantly filled to the maximum cargo. Then when the crew starts to get feisty and demand their share, it seems such a waste to divide the plunder without selling it all off(I did test wether or not they secretly sold the goods when ya pushed Divide Plunder, and they do not).

I guess my main question is: Am I the only one roaming the 7 Seas with Full ships and no where to offload all my Plunder? I blame the damn Spanish, their like Cockroaches, their Everywhere and it's my job to relieve them of all their ships!

Yeah, I usually try to find the richest friendly port and dump as much as I can off there. One other thing too is to not let your amount of good get so huge that you can't find a place to fence them all at one time. Dump it off as you accumulate it. Besides, it takes crewmen to sail those prize ships, and crewmen need food, and food takes up space which requires more ships which need crew to sail them... get it? I try to stay lean and mean, unless I am on a town sacking binge. Then I go heavy for a few towns, and as I lose men to attrition, then I'm back down to a manageable level.

You can only keep one ship when you divide the plunder - so sell them all off before you do. Sell your cargo first though <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> Or the game will make the choice of what to abandon.

I do try to keep lean, but after a few months of ravaging them damn Spaniards, I am full up with Booty and Ships! And by the time I trickle back against the winds to friendlier towns to sell off this and that, me crew is getting cranky. Though I have been trying to sell off things more often than before. No longer holding onto one type of goods waiting for a 20+ price.

Yeah, unless I am close to a good market and I know I am headed that way, my stuff gets sold for whatever I can get for it. Helps me keep the cargo space needs lower too, which means I don't have to keep as many ships, which means less crew <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Hi! I would like to know what is the use of dividing the plunder. Even if I don't divide it my men also seem to have nothing happen but if divide, I lost almost all of my gold and it seems useless to me <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />

There are two purposes to dividing the plunder.

1) If your crew get too unhappy, dividing the plunder will allow your crew to take their share and leave, fulfilling their purpose of joining you in the first place. As has been mentioned in many other threads, crew happiness is affected by how long you have been journeying (since the last `plunder-split`), amount of gold you have (the promise of riches will keep them loyal), and amount of food (fighting for scraps does no good for their morale). If you manage these variables well, you can maximise the time between plunder splits.

2) To raise your score. Notice that in your score page, it shows how much plunder you have accumulated yourself. The harder difficulty you play, the higher percentage you take of the split. It accumulates, as does land.

The negatives of splitting the plunder, are of course you lose crew, and you lose time.

Trust me, dividing the plunder is essential. Check the manual for proof of that. Or just keep sailing till your crew throws you overboard <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

There is your problem, your wasting time sailing back out of Spanish waters. You need to maximize your Spanish ship looting time. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> That's why I make sure to convert some cities deep in spanish territory so I have a place to repair and sell goods. Your right, Spanish ships are like cockroaches. Just yesterday I captured five or six ships in less than a minute, and there was still more showing up! I was running out of places to stash all the loot. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

The problem with capturing Territory is that I'm normally running around in my 125 crew Royal Sloop and I'm not getting the ability to attack! Tried firing on them, or attacking from land, but somehow I think attacking 125 vs 350 or more isn't going to be a good outcome!

What I usually do is before deviding the plunder I attack a huge city, so I am making sure many of man will die but I will survive. And the less people the more money for them and for their beloved captain.
What do you think of this idea uh?

If you have Spanish rank, it may take a few more shots to make a town mad.

I start out with a large crew and wipe a couple towns out, this brings my crew numbers down. The other thing is the Curacao - the best prices for sugar and spice on the Spanish Main - Is right about in the middle. So, I plunder my way to Curacao and then sell it all off. It pays to be friendly with the Dutch <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

That strategy will not give you any more money than you would get otherwise (you always get the same percentage of the whole), but it will certainly give more to your crew and make it easier for you to hire men when you head out next time (because of your rep of providing men with good cash).
