Choosing eras, skills and difficulty

Cap'n Toast

Freebooter
Okay, I have not seen any place to choose these. It seems to default to the 1660's and the apprentice level. Lets you choose your nationality, but that's it. Anyone?

In the beta version we had, there was a way to do all of those, but it was a tad screwy.

I didn't get the choice to select the era, skill, or difficulty either, so at least we know it's not a bug of some kind.

Cheers

Maybe you have to succed at that era then you can move on in difficulty and time... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huhh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:k" border="0" alt="huhh.gif" />

Ok this was a beta issue, i think you have to choose your nationality, quit, then start a new game.

Some of the other beta testers may know better than I

As far as I know, the first game doesn´t let you choose time period, skills and difficulty level because it serves as a tutorial to get familiar with the game. After you quit this first game or finally retire and start a new game, you have all of the missing options. Sid or a member of the dev team said so in one of these interviews... or was it mentioned in a review? Dunno.

Yeah, I played the first game for a bit and then quit and started a new one and now have all options available to me. Wish they had mentioned that in the manual.

Once you type your name, hit the next arrow and the choices become active. You can't change the era unless you change the difficulty setting to something other than Apprentice. Took me a few tries to figure that out.

Ye need tew divide de plunder tew change yer difficulty level dont know about time era <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Your first game is automatically chosen for you (Apprentice, 1660) and represents a 'tutorial'. If you desire to jump into the frey at a higher difficulty level, simply start a new game, sail into a town, and abandon the game.

When you restart a new game, it will offer you the option of choosing difficulty levels.
