I bought Sid Meyers Pirates when it first came out ,pre ordered it.I played it 'til I got bored and sold it to my brother .Now I bought a new one and tryed to install it ,but it keeps saying "Do you wish to uninstall Sid Meyers Pirates " and if I click yes it says "maintenance complete" ,if I click no it just says finished. I uninstalled the game last year and before I tryed to install the new one I deleted all traces of the original so I can't figure what the problem is. Any help would be apreciated. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

I was hoping somebody would have a better answer for this, but . . .

<b>SAVE THIS AS A LAST ALTERNATIVE.</b>

I'm guessing that the original Atari version and the new 2K version are actually incompatible.

Whatever its doing, whatever it wrote in the registry . . .

the key is to remove these values.

Unfortunately the best way to do this is . . .

On the standard pain scale of 1 to 10
this is rated at a 12+

We are talking wipe and reload your system from the operating system upwards.
If your installation of the OS is old, it might be a good idea to do this anyway just to remove OS related CRAP that Microsoft insists upon inflicting over time.

I was planning on putting in a new processor anyway ,so I could play CIV 4 , so I'll just wait 'til I do that .I'll probably replace W98 with WXP ,though that means good by to alot of my old favorites.I guess that answers my question though ,thanks Rupert.

Finaly got a reply from 2k Games suport they told me which hiden file to change and where to look .So if anyoneelse has the same problem with the same game I'll post it ,but it's a little lengthy so unless someone needs it I wont bother.

Pls post, just in case the same problem arises & u r not here.

I was going to suggest that you go into the registry and delete all SMP keys/entries.

Ok here's the fix and it worked for me,but amandment though Ihad to do same in both user profiles on my computer before it would work, but it did work and I'm playing again ! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

But no matter what he did, he had this problem. I am no stranger tew puters, but was alast....at wits end. This just answered my questions, and his as too why "<b> it used to work what happened...</b>"

Bad thing is he resold his new Sid Meier's Pirates ....oh boy he will be pissed

Is there an FTP site for Sid's Pirates like there is for POTC?
